thought I would let you no what I think of my shock factory shock absorber that I have fitted on my 2010 speed triple. literally night and day after a couple of tweaks got it just about perfect. I think the main difference is having it sprung for your weight the original shock when it was new was probably ok but after 26000 miles it was getting a bit tired. if anything it shows up the front now might look into changing the springs for the correct weight. so if anyone is looking to upgrade their old shock and you don't want to pay ohlins or k tec money these are well worth a look

Are these mono shocks such poor quality that they only last/work for a few thousand miles?

Or does this apply to all modern shocks?

Thinking about it this seems to be the case as back in 2017 when I bought a low milege British built sportscar on the pre purchase inspecton the specialist reported that the shocks could do with changing so had them done and damn they were not cheap and the rip-off here was thatthe new shocks did not come with the bushings for the mounting you had to buy them as extras and it was if memory serves over £500 just for the 8 bushings. The car and shocks were 25 years old but had only done 36,000 miles

Am guessing that the monoshock on my T300 Trophy 900 is undersprung for me as if what I read was correct they are sprung for an 80kg rider well I exceed that by over 25% though am aiming to reduce that percentage a bit as I get fitter. Same problem with the Ducati 620 Monster the spring they tell me is too weak for me. Heck I exceeded the design weight when I was still at school age 16 with 32" waist, 36" chest and protruding ribs and hip bones.

Even top quality shocks (Ohlins, Nitron etc.) need a refresh after 30K miles. The oil is working hard. The gas might leak out a little.
Stock factory fitted shocks are generally not as good (even if they have Ohlins written on them) and so will probably benefit from some work.
