    Hello all

My 2014 Tiger 800 ABS is fitted with a Datatool S4 alarm. This has worked fine for at least 5 years however when trying to start the bike this week the starter has not operated and the immobiliser led is not illuminated at all. Normally when the alarm is set this will flash. My thoughts went to the battery but I had charged that a few weeks ago. Just to be sure I set the alarm into 'winter' mode and removed and charged battery. Today I refitted battery, took alarm out of winter mode, again nothing. Pulled all the fuses, none blown - thought the alarm fuse might be suspect but no. Next set alarm back into winter mode and disconnected it from wiring harness replacing it with the bypass plug I had removed when originally fitting the alarm. Bike started fine and when you switch off and remove key the immobiliser led flashes as it should. So it looks like the alarm is faulty in some way - any thoughts on the subject please?

@Clive Dackus Yes good old Datatool The Bonnie i just purchased has an early dealer fitted one and the stupid thing is going of all the time. I can't wait till i get it removed. The unit itself has a battery when it goes the alarm plays up also the battery in the fob also plays up when low. Just me thoughts.

Hi Clive, welcome to the forum. There have been many reported failures with these alarm systems. The best cure for your problem is to take the alarm and throw it in the rubbish bin!!!
Instead use a decent quality lock to protect your bike.

You know my early Data tool seems to be behaving now. Touch wood.

A lot of the early Datatool Alarms have a fault, if you go on the Datatool website and put in the serial number, then it will tell you if the alarm is one with a fault, if it is then Datatool will fit a ne wone free of charge, they can send someone to your house, or you can take it to a Triumph Dealer (it is your responsibility to get it there), it is better to get the home fix however. I have had 2 replaced on different Triumph models, when I bought my current STRS 765 I insisted no alarm was fitted, even though they offered a great deal, I have my own security, all legal of course and it beats a Datatool Alarm.

My ZZR was fitted with a Meta alarm from new as the dealer had a good deal on at the time but I insisted the immobiliser function wasn't connected. The bike came with an OEM factory immobiliser (Kawasaki's KISS) so didn't need the same function from the alarm. Never had any trouble with it but if it does go t*ts up at least the bike will still start. Most new bikes now come with OEM immobilisers and you're better off having a decent tracker fitted instead of an alarm IMO.
