It's basically been about a year since was last on the forums and it's no longer as someone returning to biking as last year I bought a 2002 model Ducati Monster Dark 620ie but and it's a big BUTTT it is not at all what I was expecting and although have done around 3,000 miles on it I will be putting it up for sale in the near future and have found myself once again looking at adverts for Triumphs.

Namely ones from the late 1990's to about 2006 and ones squarely aimed at being well suited to touring which is one thing that no one can claim the Ducati 620 Monster to be I recently rode it over 250 miles, there and back, across the country and it was extremely uncomfortable. Now on the adverts that are within the budget we have Trophy 900, Trophy 1200, Sprint ST, Sprint 955i, Sprint ST 1050 and a TT600 although am not sure the TT600 would be classed as a Tourer would think it more of a sports bike. One of the Sprint 955i is even within our locality as it's in the town we do out shopping in it's a 2001 Blue on with 54,000km on it. Will it still be for sale ???? it's been listed since 29/08/24 so who knows it's still on Swiss registration as well so the costs of registration need to be factored in plus as yet have not sat on later Triumph only Meriden twins which I would love to have one again but that is NOT in the budget.

@Plezier Welcome back to the family. You know if you enjoy the forum. You don't necessarily need to ride a Triumph Alought it give you a common banter with the family but we like all bikes. We also like pictures and stories. So hit the upload a file button bottom right and show of some of your bikes.

Didn't appear mate. Tap on the upload a file button find the picture you want to post and double tap it and it should appear in your message. Then just tap full image and we have a bike to look at

@Plezier Yep they are there now. And its a black beauty indeed. Something about dukes that make them special. And black is one of the favourites here.

Actually black is not what I wanted although it does as you say suit it in my mind I relate black to classic British bikes like my best friend from school who had a 74 Norton Commando Mk3 850 Interstate that had been tweeked and prepped by Gus Khann of London. Andy another school friend his G3 Matchless was black my own Norton Jubilee was black although according to the log book it should have been red I bought it for £10 as a pile of bits and the tool box/battery box and oil tank were black as was the damaged tank so I painted the new tank black another friend had a 500 Enfield bullet (original not and Indian ripp off) . Chap I worked with had an AJS 500 twin and that was black he had bought it new and this was now the late 1980's. Triumph (Meridan) did of course have black in their listings though when I bought my new T140E in September 79 it was Gold with Tan panels on the UK spec tank with brown seat over.

There is some damage to my Duke tank it's a US model and the previous owners father bought it for him from an online auction in the US it had been dropped and the silencer and clutch lever, gear lever had been damaged the left switch cluster had hit and dented the tank. He left it standing for some years and the inside of the tank rusted which I got cleaned up using electrolosis and had to replace the fuel hoses, filter and pump inside the tank but the fuel filler assembly is so tight that it damaged the area around the filler when it was removed though you are supposed to be able to pull it free once the screws are removed it require prising out and he had already had a go at cleaning out the rust so it was already damaged when I bought it.

So the tank will be repaired and repainted and rather that the semi gloss it will be gloss metalic black with a broad gold strip down the middle with gold Ducati branding to replace the silver it wears now. The side trims, front mudguard, chain guard and rear hugger will also be painted to match.
