Judging from their riding gear I have to take it that none of them have ever been down on either road or track. <g> When I used to teach I always said to students: The next time you are out casually riding, settled in, gorgeous day, really enjoying the ride - start glancing down at the pavement your front wheel is passing over. Don't stare - keep you eyes on the road - but quickly glance down there from time to time; right there in front of your toes. Do it enough times that you have a nice clear picture of it in your mind. And after you do - picture yourself doing a belly-flop into it at forty or fifty miles an hour. And then every single time you have an excuse not to gear up before you take off riding - think of that belly-flop-image. Because without gear that is your very real possibility every time you ride.
