Daytona 660

Has anyone on here actually bought one? I've found a few references, using the search button, but no-one admits to having shelled out the readies for the new(ish) Daytona 660.

I came across it on the Triumph stand at the NEC show last November and really liked it. I dismissed the idea of owning one because I have 4 bikes and one of them is a 2001 CBR600FS (amazing condition, only 2200 miles). As we know the CBR600 does just about everything well, it's a great all-rounder, but I'm wondering if I'll enjoy the Daytona more. I realise no-one can can tell me whether I will or not but I'm looking for opinions from owners of the 660. Anyone?

You get yours the day before I get mine. I pick it up on May 9th from Youles in Manchester.

 

I collected the Daytona 660 a week ago and have clocked up around 150 miles, at least I think I have because the odometer doesn't show on the screen and I haven't worked out how to find it!. And I like it. Another 450 miles to complete the running-in period before I can really test the engine (why do we have to run-in bikes but not cars?) and comment on handling etc, but the riding position is nowhere near as extreme as my two Hondas (RVF 400 & CBR400), in fact it feels very relaxed with the relatively high bars.



There was a £500-off deal last month. Plus it came with a quick shifter. I got the frame protector kit included in the deal and a good discount on the low seat option. Already ordered a tail tidy from Evotech to sort that sticky-out rear end. Other bits will follow.

 

Still running this in. 300 miles to go. Something that bothered me right from the start was the flashing tachometer. After a while I realised that the flashing happened when the revs past 4000rpm. Obviously a warning to ease off. This stopped when I clocked up the first 100 miles. But then it moved up the rev range to 5000rpm.
I can see the point of course but it's a little disconcerting when you nervously ride off on a new bike only to see the tacho start flashing a couple of miles down the road. My first thought was 'what have I done wrong?!'
I wasn't warned about this at the shop. When the Youles salesman phoned a couple of days later (to see how I was getting on) I said it would have been useful to know in advance, he said he didn't know anything about it.

Having ploughed through the on-line-only owners manual (all 300 pages!), there is no mention of it there either. Very strange.

Anyone else experience something similar with their new Triumph?

 

As a follow up to my reference of the non-appearance of the odometer, it seems it only shows for a few moments when the ignition is switched on. There is no way to have it showing permanently on the screen. Bizarre.
