Hi, i'm Dan. I'm from Hastings and have been riding about a year. I currently ride a hornet 600 (don't hate me). The reason i am here is that I'm being donated (for £80) a 1200 trophy engine that has suffered water damage and frame. I'm looking to gather wisdom from people in the know and rebuild it. I'm not particularly knowledgable about engines, but i want to learn so this is cheap way in (yeah right). My ambition is to build a cafe racer or similar. So i thought i'd hang out here if people will have me and learn from owners. I would love to hear thoughts from people on types of tanks to use, front end, wheel sizes and wiring set ups. I don't know much about the engine yet (year, or whatever).
I also just love talking about biking, and my wife just glazes over more and more quickly nowadays.
    Anyway. Nice to meet you.

Thanks Steve. Yes! I think so. It'll be an interesting project. I've always wanted to rebuild an engine, it'll be a long process I recon.

Hi Dan and welcome in to the Triumph Asylum - you know what they say Dan - "you don't have to be mad to be here, but it helps". ;););)

I think there are a couple of guys on here building 'specials' based on the 1200 engine - have a look around the different threads and pick 'em up.
