    Hi all,

I have a Triumph 1050 GT SE Sports Tourer 2013 (purchased new) - I am in Sydney Australia BTW.

I have had problems with my bike just stopping, no power after about 40 minutes of riding. It is like the immobiliser is kicking when riding; however, when I cruise to a stop and try to restart, it doesn't, and there is only power to the headlights.
A fiddle around, and it seems to get going again.

    Fast forward to now:

    1. I changed the battery in it a week ago.
    2. Out for a ride today and after about 40 minutes it just stopped again. No matter what there was no power to the bike except the headlights.
    3. I fiddled around with what looked like the relays. The only way I could get the bike to start and get me home was to leave them unseated, as per Bike_image 1.
    4. When I got home, I reseated them, and the bike again would not start.

    So my question(s) are:

    a. Are these relays?
    b. Are they easy to replace?
    c. Do relays "die"

Otherwise the bike is running like a dream.

    Thank you :)

@Pat59 Chances are you have a loose or broken connection there somewhere usually around the headstock or ignition. Make sure all joints and plugs are free from corrosion and dirt. Keep us in the know

    Thank you for your reply
I have ordered new relays. Fingers crossed it is not a wire issue. I have checked for corrosion and it is pretty clean but it is also very tightly packed so it is hard to see.

    Update:

08/12/2024: I took it out in the cool of the morning the Saturday before Christmas, and about 45 min into the ride, the engine cut out and would not restart. Only headlights were working, no power. After about 20 minutes, I got the bike going and gently rode the final 40 or so minutes home with no issue. (Although the Engine Management light stayed on for a bit).

11/12/2024: I changed the relays with no change in the bike cutting out.

The next day, the bike would not start again; it had no power except the headlights. Of course, like previously, it eventually decided to start.

I should note here that the Alarm had stopped working some time ago, I have to admit I never noticed, I should have because the alarm has always been super sensitive. The Immobiliser however has been working when shutting off as it always has (kicking in after 45 seconds).

    Fast forward....
I did a lot of research online and discovered that the Datatool S4 Alarm/Immobiliser was part of a Safety recall in 2017 for many bikes, including mine. I purchased my bike new, and the dealer/Triumph did not alert me to this. https://www.triumph-trophy.com/index.php?topic=6677.0

So the bottom line is that the Datatool S4 Alarm/Immobiliser on my bike was cactus. It was causing the bike to do weird things with the electronics, immobilising the bike when riding, and then killing it when it was turned off. I had had some very "hairy" calls because of it cutting out when riding.

Luckily, the dealership had given me the bypass plug, and I kept all that stuff together. The next annoying thing was finding where they installed the alarm. I found it under the fuel tank.
(For those who have the Triumph 1050 GT SE Sports Tourer 2013, here is a cool YouTube video on how to remove the fuel tank, it is super easy: )

I had to butcher the cover where the alarm cables were joined, the screw covers were well and truly stuck. Anyway the process of disconnection and plugging in the bypass plug.

Once all put back together I started it up with no issues and the Engine Management Light came on. I turned it off for a bit, turned it on again with no problems and took it for a short run. The Engine Management Light went out after a couple of km's.

Fast forward to today (28/12/2024): This morning, I took the bike out for a 3-hour ride. It didn't miss a beat. Rode like a dream, with no issues with starting up.

Bottom line: I will not be installing another alarm. It was really annoying anyway. The bike is securely garaged when not in use but I will need something for those longer trips to secure the bike at motels overnight any suggestions would be appreciated.
