"...ugly neon green ..." ? 'Frogsnot Green' and 'Dog Pecker Pink' on the Series II Speeds are probably THE two best factory colours ever used on a motorcycle. IMHO, of course! Nice work on the bike, BTW, and especially on the seats.
Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder Decision made, ordered some BRG paint - a Lotus shade since it was easier and cheaper to get than the Aston color I was thinking of.
Definitely not going to be this color Aside from the weird consistency of the paint that makes it run like crazy - it looks like John Deere tractor green. Could have gotten that at the local home improvement store. So once it dries, I'll sand it back down and consider something else. Definitely will not be using that brand of paint again.
That wouldn't look nice even in metallic! Name and shame the brand and colour, please - forewarned is forearmed! ;-))
That's super interesting about the title, @Oldjeep. I'm from MN and now live in AZ. A year or two ago one of my nephews who still lives there bought a Street Glide from a guy in Iowa. The bike had/has a salvage title. When I expressed concern to my nephew, he said not to worry--that MN was, as you said "weird in MN". Loved your thread and it's truly wonderful that you saved this sad bike. A bike that is now a happy bike! With (hopefully) a VERY happy new owner! I have a Speed Triple, too (2019). Enjoy yours!
Hi again, @Oldjeep. Not only did I grow up in MN but I grew up on a farm. So I am in full agreement about "John Deere Green" not being suitable for your beautiful "new" bike! Loving the beautification portion of your rebuild.
Paint is gonna wait a while now, might even just let someone do that part this winter. Something else crawled into the garage yesterday to distract me.
No pictures, but sent the parts out for paint to let a pro deal with it. Paint color will be the darkest BRG that Jag uses. Should have them back in a few weeks.
Still working on it. Had 0 compression and I shit you not, someone had disassembled the head and reversed the intakes and exhausts in all 4 cylinders when they put it back together. Waiting on head gasket to put it back together.
Needs to sit and cure for a week or 2, but turned out very well. Now I just need to decide what kind of decals to put back on.
@Oldjeep Don't you just hate it when you buy a bike only to find out some cowboy has been there before you
Most of the bikes I buy are non-op or wrecks, so I am not surprised by much anymore. Although the valve thing was really special
Stripped it and put in the Traxxion dynamics springs yesterday. Waiting on a fuel pump gasket since the one I pulled off the old tank was trashed, and a new exhaust that doesn't look like (well the stock exhaust).
All together, just waiting on exhaust, some stickers and a ventura sidebar set to hang the saddlebags.
Wife is costing me some money today. She said - wouldn't the seat look better brown now that the bike is green? Well, yeah and it would match the goat leather saddlebags I have for the bike too. So did some messaging with Volcano in Italy and even though they don't list a brown version of that cover they were willing to make one in a vintage faux leather. So now I need to find another pair of stock seats to recover and then eventually sell the black ones.
She was right, the brown distressed leather looks better. The Ventura rack is coming off - don't like the way it looks and it isn't useful for hanging saddle bags like I was hoping. So now I just need to sell the Black set.
