Hi everyone I’m having a problem with my triumph street scrambler 2021 model I can’t ride comfortably at slow speeds say in town etc. The problem is that when you release the throttle the revs only drop to around 1450 which makes a run on. As soon as you pull the clutch in the revs drop to normal around 1100. I’ve taken it to youles triumph who said it’s normal. I’ve taken it to a mechanic who said nothing is showing up on the computer. It’s so annoying I could even take my hand off the throttle in 2 nd gear and it rides like cruise control. I want the Revs to drop to an acceptable level whether it’s in gear or not. That’s how all my bikes have worked over the years. I might have to sell it if o can’t fix it.Anyone else have the same problem cheers MJ
@MJA I can't see why someone can't drop the revs for you. Surely easy enough to do. Have you insisted to them that you want lower revs
Yeah told them the problem but triumph just say that’s what they are suppose to do to stop them stalling.
That's not normal IMO. I've had a 2020 and a 2022 SS and neither of them did that. I'm pretty sure the idle is controlled by the ECU and is not manually adjustable. I used Dealertool for servicing and "Target Idle Speed" is displayed on one of the functions but I can't remember if it's actually adjustable. I would imagine the diagnostics that dealers use will have the option to adjust the speed.
thanks for the info. Interesting that neither of yours did it. I should probably take it back again. Lost faith in the dealership.
With modern EFI vehicles the idle is controlled dynamically by the ECU using data from numerous sensors, one of which being the clutch switch, rather than being pegged at a certain value. Bring back carbs I say!
Sounds like you're getting air in the system, check to see if any hoses have fallen off, no cracks, finally spray some WD40 or something similar around the throttle bodies, it worked on an old daytona I had, who knows its worth a shot. Let us know how you go. M
On carbed bikes a hanging idle was usually caused by an air leak or too lean mixture at idle. I'm not sure there is anything wrong with your bike. The way I see it as you are coming to a stop the bike is keeping the revs as its in gear and under load. As soon as you apply the clutch, the engine is no longer under load and the revs drop to a normal idle. On my 23 ST900 the idle is around 1000 rpm. Yours might very well be 1100, would depend on bike model I guess. So if you are doing any slow speed riding, you normally use the clutch, throttle and rear brake all together to control your forward progress. If the bike works fine when doing this, there isn't anything wrong. Not sure I'm really making any sense.
Modern Triumph's certainly idle faster than Triumph's of old. For reference my 2019 Speed Triple idles at 1300rpm.
That seems abnormally high. Both my Scramblers, 900 & 1200 idle around 1100, as does the ZZR. The FE, on the other hand is set to around 1600, big single, light flywheel.

Never crossed my mind that it could be idling too fast. 1300rpm is what is specified in the official Triumph online service manual and works for me.
