Hello, I'm picking up my new Thruxton RS in few days time and I'm wondering if there is a particular way to break in that bike ? I do not have owners manual yet but as far I know, first 1000km up to 4000 rpm end then oil service ? I do mostly city driving which is actually good for engine braking. Thanks.
My Speed Twin 1200, pretty much the same engine, 0 - 300miles 4,000rpm/ 300 - 600miles 5,000rpm/ 6 - 800miles 6,000rpm/ 800 - 1,000miles 7,000rpm. 1st service at 600 miles. Hope that helps.
Avoid constant throttle, work the engine so it gives the rings chance to bed in. Avoid excessive rpm but also avoid labouring the engine in too high a gear. There are no magic numbers really, just mechanical sympathy and a good dose of common sense.
It was on the sticker on my tank when I got the bike from new. As Eldon said use common sense, don't baby it but don't rev the nuts off it either. I had a Thruxton 1200 before the Speed Twin and the motor seemed to really settle down after about 5,000 miles.
I see. I hope I will get some info. It is a 2023 showroom bike and I haven't any specific stickers on the tank so thanks for sharing
There's nothing mechanically special about a Thruxton RS, it's just a bike with an engine. Don't labour it in high gears and don't treat it like a baby. The guidance in the user manual is just that, don't be afraid to go over 4k briefly for an overtake etc.
Done already 300 km and I'm using the hole range up to 4000rpm but not using full throttle. This bike is not happy cruising at 2000 rpm so do not go under 2500 in higher geares. Hope to pass 300mile mark soon and could get up to 5000rpm course usable rev range is so limited now that it is actually not enjoyable at all.
