Featured Heaven On Earth For Motorcycle Lovers! Mecum Auction, Las Vegas

Soooooo many bikes at this event! Short bikes, tall bikes, big bikes, small bikes........ And a bunch with sidecars, too.

Today's photos will be of just some of the small bikes and some of the sidecar bikes. Enjoy!

There were at least half a dozen of these Honda Monkeys--all in gold--for sale. Most of them had never even been set up for riding with fluids and had 0 miles on the clock!





This one was a non-runner, also. Nor was it for sale. It was on display each day at the "Curing Kids Cancer" booth.



And one of the little bikes even had a big brother--and a sidecar! And coming up are some of the sidecar offerings.

Bikes with sidecars There were far more than I imagined there might be! And I'm sure that I missed some that were there.





This Harley Road Glide is similar to Steve's bike. Russell and I told him he could do this to his bike so Ellie, the Boxer could ride along with us.





I guess this one technically qualifies as a sidecar. But it looks more like a side wagon to me.







I didn't see the next two bikes but looked on the Mecum website just now to see how much the Brough Superior with sidecar sold for. The information tag on the bike indicated it might go for $350,000-400,000! It sold for quite a tidy sum but not that much. That said, DEFINITELY too rich for my blood!





This was one of the top sellers of the auction, too. Have any of you heard of this company??

Munch were building bikes in the '60's but went out of business in the mid '70's. The Mammut used a 4 cyl NSU car engine and was a fast bike for it's time with a 130mph+ top speed despite weighing well over 600lbs! Very rare beasts now, thank goodness!

 

Some nice vintage dirt bikes there waiting for new owners. Dirt bikes can have hard lives but can be good candidates for restorations as they're usually simple machines with uncomplicated electrics and little in the way of bodywork and ancillaries.

 

It says on the details sheet that the Brough is not for use on the highway or public roads, that's a lot of money for a bike you can't even ride (not that many are by the looks of things?)

 

Yes, @Pegscraper, there were literally dozens of dirt bikes up for auction! We realized that most of those were probably on Wednesday and Thursday, the first two days of the auction and the days that we were in attendance. I don't know much of anything so learned a lot--but also tired of seeing so many dirt bikes, I must confess.

 

I absolutely agree with you, @littleade! There were a number of bikes that came up on the auction block with the stock caveat, "Not for use on the highway or public roads". I wonder if that means they are "as is" and can be restored to road use or that the new owner is consigned to using it for decorative purposes only.
