Got a minor issue with uneven running at low revs/tickover so had the air filter out this afternoon and half of it IS sooty, other half clean, figure that.

New one required, no problem with getting one but inside the filter housing was a small amount of what looks like engine oil, about a tablespoons worth.

I know some filters are used "wet" but not in this case.

Should I be concerned or............is it nothing?

Yes it is the 790. Reckon i'll do as suggested, get a new filter and double check it over the next couple of weeks. Looked fresh-ish oil rather than gunge. Check that oil level too later this morning.

Good advice from ht - I had an oiled (K&N) filter in my 790 and it did leave a small deposit of oil on the bottom of the filter housing but overfilling with oil or any blockage in the breather pipe will blow excess oil in there.
