One of my best friend's sons, Tommy, just got back from London. He was there for a wedding. My buddy and his boys are avid bikers. Tommy stayed an extra day after the nuptials just so he could visit the Ace Cafe. He was enthralled. Like a lot of things, it's probably been commercialized a bit since it became famous, but he couldn't stop talking about the place and the bikes. Now, he wants a Thruxton. Another Triumph convert.
Very over rated place IMO. Went there 2 weeks ago since my previous visit in 2003. It didn't change my opinion. Maybe try out the Bike Shed in Shoreditch and you will notice the difference. Its OK if you want to hark back to the 1960s...
Agreed. The Ace is pretty local to me but I rarely venture there. Not much to see during the day, and the little scrotes that spend their time nicking bikes are always at the evening events.Oh, and the food is awful. The Bike Shed is well worth a visit, though. Best breakfasts going, too
Haven’t been for a few years but plan to breakfast there on Sunday so will see how awful the food is.
Always planned on going there when I had a Bonneville and lived in Winchester. Could never face the utterly sh!te ride there though
Understandable. Similar with us M1 and North Circular. Totally uninspiring and why wouldn’t some of us want to hark back to the 60s?
Have been a few times but the terrible driving and awful roads mean I have no wish to go back. And there was always some moron there riding like a total knob, trying to either kill themselves/equally stupid spectators (egging them on) or just asking to get pulled by the Rozzers... OK, you have an obnoxious loud pipe and think you can wheelie, we get it, now bugger off!
