I am going to treat my Street Triple to a quality chain and sprockets when it is serviced in July. Do any of you experienced owners have any particular recommendations?
I always go with DID X ring but my bikes are always getting on a bit. The choice is endless, hopefully someone far cleverer than me will come up with the goods.
+1 for DID X-RING. I always use DID plus I have the splitting and riveting tool which is easy to use.
Hi Mrs V, the 3 main ones I would recommend are DID - AFAM and TSUBAKI, the TSUBAKI is a top quality Japanese chain, they were about the first to offer O ring seals around the 70s, AFAM are also made to the very highest standard and many race teams use them, again a quality Japanese manufacturer. DID make the VX series and are the industry leader, their X-Ring seal technology results in an extended chain life with minimal friction, the DID chain would be the one I would recommend, however you will not be disappointed with any of the 3 mentioned, but for quality and value for money the DID chains are hard to beat. A new chain and sprocket kit will transform the gearchanges massively and make for a really smooth ride, and a a quality chain cleaner and lube will keep it in top order for years. Ride safe all from an ageing Rocker.
I fitted the DID chain to the Ducati two years ago and have just fitted the same to my son’s 900 Thruxton. Both have just the outer plates in gold with the rest of the chain un coloured and they look the bee’s knees, or other such superlatives.
From memory of your tyre thread your machine has only done about 8,500 miles? Do you really need a new chain and sprockets? If it’s also for aesthetic reasons to incorporate some bling I totally understand but would not normally expect to change these components out purely on a wear basis with such low mileage. But maybe I’m just being a tight wad.
From a wear perspective, I don't need them at all. It's an indulgence really, I'd just like some good quality ones that also look nice.
I have used DID VX, DID X-Ring, Tsubaki, EK, Duckworth and RK in the US. The RK wins hands down. It just does not stretch over its life span once broken in. Can't say that for the X-Ring on a high horsepower engine in my experience. RK chains on my last two KTM 1290 GT's.
