Did the same thing back in 2010 with my sprint st. Pulled on to the pump and started to fill up. Young lad filling his car opposite kept looking over and smiling. Eventually he came over and said nice bike mate, didn’t know that they ran on diesel though? Smiled walked off. Felt bloody stupid and it took 5 hours to get recovered and the tank pumped and filled with petrol.

Many years ago I ran a garage and a V8.
Obviously these things can sup some and so we had a string of customers putting petrol in diesels and it seemed a waste to just bin new fuel. I used to add a few gallons of "mixed" ( think snakebite as that does the job, albeit a different one) to half a tank of petrol to get better econonomy, £s/mile :yum
Yes ok, the idle went to 5hit at junctions so you looked a bit of a knob revving it all the time, but it certainly cut the fuel bill somewhat even despite it being in the 1990s.

The irony is that if you had a Harley it wouldn't have noticed!:p Other than messing up the emissions crap, exhaust sensors, CAT etc and maybe oiling up the plugs I doubt diesel would seriously damage the engine. Petrol in a diesel on the other hand is a sure fire way to write off your IP and/or injectors.

An old biking friend, who passed away in 2017, often told me how he used to run his Triumph on TVO he got from a local farmer during the fuel shortage caused by the Suez crisis in '56. He fitted a small auxiliary tank to hold petrol for starting, then switched over to TVO when it was warm. Much like your V8, it wouldn't idle so he had to keep revving it at junctions. Another down side was it used to smoke for England!:joy: Don't try that on your Speed Triple RR!

Funny enough I just gave a friend, two weeks ago, a new rotary handpump for a present to use with his 45 gallon TVO barrels. Apparently you can't buy it now but he has a stash for the Grey Fergy.
Start on petrol run on TVO. It has a switch over tap a bit like an old main and reserve tap on a bike but all made out of brass.

Following my visit to hospital yesterday for cortisone jab in my foot I took the Thruxton out for a couple of hours. Managed reasonably ok, so things are looking positive for the seasons riding :)

The nasties continue here in the South California mountains. After 9' of snow a couple of weeks ago, we have had much rain. Now they are saying 2-3' of snow tonight and tomorrow. I can only ASSUME the cabin up there is still vertical :eyes:. "Lola" stays parked in the workshop connected to her trickle charger. ...J.D.

Yikes, @Wire-Wheels! When it rains it pours…and when it snows it REALLY snows! :p I hope your cabin is ok. And that Lola is patient.

I replaced the baffle in my exhaust today; Helmut informed me last weekend that it was nearing obnoxious. I had only removed it out of curiosity last summer, thought it was really loud and then got used to it and loved it. However I have no wish to be "that" person so have replaced it for now to see what I think. I hadn't realised quite how loud it was until I rode my Fireblade (still on an aftermarket exhaust with baffle out, so not whisper quiet) and then the Striple; when I started it it did occur to me that it was far louder than the 'blade.
