    Hi all

I am new here and I actually registered to share my experience and describe the problem I am facing, hoping similar occasions will be sorted by triumph more efficiently.

I bought a brand new Tiger 900 RP on April 2022. The bike was great until I reached around 9K kms. At that stage the engine started to produce a ticking noice which clearly sounds like some engine valve problem. This noice was spotted in the beginning around 2,8 - 3,2 RPM but a few kms later it started in lower revs and finally, at around 10K kms, it was spotted also while idle and very heavily.

I took the bike to 2 different Triumph local dealerships and both said that it is not a problem and it is normal, despite the fact that it started on 9K and not from the beginning. The noise was constantly increasing and I went for the third time to one of the 2 dealerships where they decided to keep the bike and explore the problem. So, fact 1 : Triumph spotted a problem in the engine.

After almost 1 month the bike is still at the dealership and I have been informed that they changed the cam chain along with some other check they made, but the problem has not been solved yet.
Fact 2 : After spending €17K for a new premium bike, the bike for 1 month in the dealership, without me getting some specific answer.

Today I was told that they will send a video recording to present the noise to Triumph UK headquarters for any further action.

I am so upset and disturbed with this problem and I am really not sure when/if my bike's problem will be solved. I am decided to push it as far as possible.

Any thoughts, similar experiences, recommendations are more than welcome.

    K

    Firsty Welcome to the forum:).
Its good to hear that someone is taking it seriously , It pays to get a second opinion.
In the big picture, 900 Engines are bullet proof and well engineered so its very unusal for issues like yours . I hope Triumph can solve it for you.

    Welcome Kostas

I am surprised to hear about this issue from Triumph Triple engine! I had a similar issue with a 2020 BMW F900XR that rattled once it got to about 2000 miles. BMW said “that’s normal” but it was coincidentally using oil! This turned out to be a sump issue and they had my bike for nearly 4 months and I sold it once it was returned with a fixed sump but an ever present rattle!

On the plus side, they loaned me multiple demo bikes for most of the 4 months. Have you pushed for a loaner bike because that might make the wait more bearable?

    Cheers

Geoff (a big fan of the Greek islands and Souvlaki) :grinning:

I would make the dealer keep it till fixed and make them give you a loan bike until you are satisfied that it is OK.
I would also be writing to Triumph management , even John Bloor himself.
It's totally unacceptable to pay a premium price and be unable to ride the bike as it is in the dealers again. I feel that the quality of these newer Triumph models is questionable compared to the earlier bomb proof bikes.

Sorry to hear about the issue with your Tiger - hope it gets sorted and soon. Uou should push for a loan bike!
My 900 GT Pro has covered just over 29000 kms with no noise so it definitely is a problem with yours

Hi there, I’ve got a 2023 Tiger 900 GT PRO with 7800km right now, and I’ve experimented a very similar issue as yours. It started with soft tickling around 2800-3200 rpm and I didn’t worry too much about it, as it was hardly audible, but it rapidly became much worse. Right now it’s a hard tickling that happens in almost all rpm range. I went to an oficial Triumph dealership and they told me that it seemed some valve problem, but they said not to worry about it because it wasn’t too much of a thing. A couple km later (today) when you accelerate and rpm goes above 4800 it makes horrible engine noise and hard vibration wich I can assure that it wasn’t there before all this tickling thing started. Appart from this I’ve noticed some power loose from 5k rpm above… Now the dealership told me to call to the workshop to make and appointment… And until that date comes to still use the bike daily…. Incredible. I’ll keep you updated.
