I’ve owned a BMW 1200 GS since 2005, it’s a great bike but a wanted something a bit different. There was a prototype of a Paris Dakar GS from some French company but it never came to anything. I wanted a retro style Adventure Bike so when the Triumph Scrambler 1200 appeared a bought one and started work. I wanted a Big tank - that proved to be a challenge. Custom making anything is slow and expensive- it took 3 years to get the tank made but I finally have it .
The first change was add a screen and seat for comfort, I like to do long days in the saddle. I picked up a universal screen and it works great. The seat required more effort. I am now on mark 3 and mark 4 will be shaped this winter.
Once I had the seat screen set up I had a wee trip to Morocco from Scotland. It was great but I ran out of fuel in shit nowhere in 40c heat and wished I had a big tank…
As you will see from pictures I will post the tank is massive and to offset the look and for extra comfort it needs a big seat- like something from my GS - see mock up picture .
I have ordered pannier frames from unit garage on advice from this forum- still undecided about soft luggage. Thinking Mosko Moto. Does anyone have a picture of 35/25 litre set up?
I need to make nice engine bars. I bought SW Motech ones but not really happy about the look although might work I’d tinkered with.
Another thing that caused problems was riser bars for dirt road riding. The electric cables are too short and unplugged after a bumpy ride. Anyone know hope to extend the electrics?
I’ll post updates as things progress.
