My Cousin Alistair recently fitted a centre stand to his 1998 Triumph Adventurer ... Can you spot it ;)

Well its been accident damaged then repaired by a plasterer.....
Now I don't want to stereotype plasterers but this one in particular had little idea mechanically.
Currently there's no headlight, tailight, indicators fitted as the ones on were either only fit for the bin or of such a dubious design I wouldn't ask my friendly mot station to test them.
He obviously wanted black footpegs etc to go with the scheme of the bike but black insulation tape wrapping isn't really a replacement for satin black powdercoating is it? : unamused:

Took that horrible exhaust wrapping off and started polishing the pipes back to former appearance.

Lol I guess so - hard to see from the small pic on my phone but you’ve picked the right time of the year to make corrections !
Not every one has skills in mechanics - but wrapping in sticky tape must verge on sacrilege on the forum
Good luck with the resto ! :)

Here's the Triumph aftermarket adjustable levers with scrubs on the ends.
Something so simple at a glance turns into a right exercise as obviously the intention was for them never to be stripped. Despite having Snap On tools none fitted the nut underneath.

    20221020_181944.jpg

The 8mm Snap On socket, one on the right in the picture below, has an outside diameter of 11.6mm. The nut sits in a recess so a quick spin of a cheapo socket in the lathe gave one with an OD of 10.1mm. Now that is a thin wall socket.

Look at this for a joke of a back light.
So this is with brake light and hazards on.
Can you tell the difference between the indicators and the tailight/brake light?

There’s a lot of work going into your bike! agreed the wrapping is not something that suits (imo) the glorious chrome, in a big fan despite the necessary constant cleaning. I understand that a well known brand of toilet cleaner does the job quite well though a brief mishap with a warm exhaust and a microfibre cloth was quickly rectified with some AutoGlym metal polish and some tin foil! I’m more of a cleaner than a fettler….

Why buy a classic then try to make it look like something out of Tron ?

So footpegs have been stripped, vapour blasted and powdercoated satin black along with the back brake pedal and gear lever.
I think they look loads better than standard satin aluminium colour, what do you think?

Very very much better ! Suspect it cost a fraction more than the usual £2.99 roll of electrical tape :joy:

Actually no it was cheaper :joy::joy::joy:

Where I work we have a powdercoat section so I just drop them in there, no rush but next time you're on satin black ;)

They currently have various other bits of mine including side stand, centre stand, exhaust shields etc

The bit circled would you believe are/were the front indicators :(
They are bright but how you could expect anyone to see these with the headlight permanently on and so close beggars belief.

Oh dear - they are simply a crime against design …

I’m wondering, and please I don’t mean to offend here, did you buy this bike blind or did you feel compelled to undo the harm the “plasterer” had unleashed ?

Not "compelled" :joy: but out of desire to have things right although I usually take all my new purchases to pieces and rebuild/service etc as I go so when I do use it I know it's right and reliable.
I bought it as a project at an acceptable price so intended stripping it before I had actually got it home.

Here's a picture of my 765 AFTER it had just had it's 500 miles from new service; I don't trust most shops to do jobs as previously I was in the motortrade some years ago and also took the opportunity to personalise it. Book times and profit/bonus is unfortunately the ultimate goal these days.
