    Hi All!
Have any of you used 0000 super fine steel wool to clean the engine and rims of your bike? I have a 2022 T120 and want to keep that beautiful engine looking showroom clean. But I'm worried the polish that would result from using steel wool will forever alter the character of those parts. Any thoughts?

    Howdy there @Samsgrandad ,

Thank you for responding to this inquiry. I do need help.

So the thing is that I watched several youtube videos from people who have restored old chrome parts using 0000 steel wool. It leaves behind an absolutely smooth, scratch free finish - on chrome. The sides of a 2022 T120 are some type of brushed metal, either aluminum or steel, It gets dirty of course and when I clean it the result isn't quite like new. So after seeing those youtube videos I thought maybe 0000 super fine steel wool might be ok.
I secretly...don't tell anyone...tried a 2cm square patch on the bottom of the left side cover. And it works. Not visible scratches. Shinny metal. So maybe??
But you say that part is lacquered? Are referring to the gas tank or the engine side cover? Not a challenge, I don't know and want to find all these facts before I ruin my bike. :)

Many thanks for your attention bud.
    Be well.

PS and by the way thank you Triumph - This is an absolutely wonderful machine.

I have a 2018 T100 with the brushed aluminum engine covers. They are not laquered. You can clean them up with WD40 and a grey 3M Scotchbrite pad, following the original brush marks. The not so popular with some Stewart Fillingham posted a good how to video.

Coincidentally I watched that video right after posting my precious note. Very helpful information. I have wd40 and cloth so I'm going to start there. I don't think the product he used is available in the United States. (America is not a country despite what many of my brethren say) In future maybe I'll try abrasive pads depending on road damage. I already see a shinny mark where my boot rubs on the case. So anyway, this is interesting and I'm a little more relaxed thanks to that video. Thank you very much!

Yes, I don't think that product is available here in the states. As I mentioned, I have had great success with the WD40 and the grey Scotchbrite pad which is not too abrasive. I also have tried the white Scotchbrite pads, but they seem too mild. I purchaed the pads here. https://worldclasssupply.com/store/scotch-brite-pad-gray.html

Hi Nibbler - I use Muc off miracle polish on all my shiny parts, pretty much after every decent ride (but I do have CDO) applied when cool obvs & topped off with GT85 which has ptfe to keep out water & add a thin layer of protective goodness
Steel wool is abrasive, no matter what grade, each application removes material - tin foil is a better bet as the metal used is softer than the casings & certainly softer than my than my chrome plating - but it won’t remove faint blueing at the top of the exhausts - metal polish & elbow grease are your friends here
    Enjoy
