After selling my last bike (Kawasaki gpz 305) to pay for my honeymoon over 30 years ago, I have finally bought myself another bike and went for a 3 year old Street Twin. I am absolutely loving it and my concerns about being intimidated by a big bike after so many years away from riding so evaporated as this is such an easy bike to ride. My wife comes out with me and she finds the pillion position is just fine. One question I do have, it is fitted with a Puig fly screen, but anything above 65mph and I fell really buffeted by the wind. Is this normal or would it be worth fitting an extender to the screen? Any advice would be welcome. Thanks
Some of our Thriumphants ride with a larger wind shield. There are a lot of examples in the forum. I´m personally using a smaller one on my T120.
Personally, I would do away with the screen altogether. I prefer the clean air and no buffeting you get that way.
Hi Sam, and welcome. I don't have any screen on my Street Twin, although I have had them on other bikes in the past. In my experience, a bit of wind pressure at higher speeds is less of a problem than the noise and buffeting you get with a screen.
That's really interesting and not something I would have thought. I'll take it off and go naked for a few day just to get a feel for it.
I agree with taking the screen off. Going naked is maybe a step too far, though I suppose you shouldn't knock it until you've tried it...
Greetings, Sam, and welcome to the forum. And to the wonderful world of Triumph! Thanks for sharing the photo of your Street Twin. Sounds like you're very happy with your choice and are enjoying the bike. Good luck figuring out the fly screen issues. I'm sure you'll come up with a good solution and there are quite a few folks on the forum that can give you their thoughts and advice. You might also want to post your fly screen questions in the Twin Power forum.
Hi and welcome to the forum. I tried a Dart fly screen on my first T100 Bonneville and found it quite effective at deflecting a little of the air off my chest but I removed it later and preferred the bike as standard. I've had two Bonnevilles and would agree that at Motorway speeds and above it can feel as if you are being pushed off the back of the bike. The T100 came with a large touring screen, which I tried once. It was great at keeping the wind off but I felt it affected the bikes handling adversely - it seemed to catch the wind at the wrong time like when changing lanes on the motorway. Also, lets be honest, they look shite!
