Thanks for the input. Not sure however that my lad wants to ride round with a back pack full of spare bits should something fail. He'd rather get to the bottom of the fault. But many thanks for sharing this.
He may not so easily "get to the bottom" of an intermittent fault and I wasn't suggesting a backpack full of spares as we had a Mercedes Sprinter so hardly an issue for us. If I was you, and for the cost and effort involved, I'd change the starter solenoid
Thanks for that advice, much appreciated. I'll pass this onto him and see if he's ever done this. Cheers
Craig Lord Yes it does seem like a battery not holding up. Go to motobat with your battery dimensions and ask if they can supply an higher amperage battery. And check that rectifier that it is charging at the right rate. Make sure the solenoid is clean and properly tightened. Joe.
Nope, been for a half hour ride. Intentionally stalled it on my drive, same issue still occurs. I cant upload a video.
I haven’t sprayed the starter switch. I have checked for any corrosion on both the starter switch and kill switch. I have also checked for visible loose/damaged wires. I dont have any expertise in mechanical work so I am limited to what I can do. I have taken the bike to 2 garages with diagnostics and 2 other knowledgeable people. Nobody has any idea. As the issue is intermittent Triumph have said its pointless bringing it in… however now the issue is getting worse and I can make it happen by stalling it ill be taking it to the dealer i think.
The fact that the bike will still bump start suggests that the battery is going flat when hot. Check the battery is charging when it is hot.

Hello, apologies for not posting earlier, but my sons been trying to rectify the issues raised here. He's just put a brand new solenoid on the bike and yesterday it cut out again, miles from home. There is either a very serious or miniscule fault here but its getting down to the fault that no one can highlight?
Craig Lord. Yes it it charging at the right rate. Or is there a coil breaking down under the heat cycle. It really is a head scratcher. Joe.
Can you just try something please ? Instead of the normal start routine, can you try the following. 1. Press the start button and hold in. 2. Pull the clutch lever in. Does it start ?
