Anyone had an issue after fitting a booster plug?

I recently purchased a Booster Plug for my 2020 T120.

I took the motorcycle for a short ride immediately before fitting the device so that I could make a comparison in performance. Unfortunately, once the device was fitted my bike would not start. I removed the device and it still would not start.

My Triumph dealer has collected the bike from me and the diagnosis is that the ECU has failed. Not being a great believer in coincidence I am wondering whether this is a result of connecting the booster plug as the machine was running perfectly well prior to it being fitted.

I had one fitted to my 1200RT and it was fine and I know that many of you will have fitted them without issue but has anyone had a similar experience to me?

Never had any issues after fitting one to my 2012 Bonneville SE - apart from the fact that I noticed no difference in performance or anything else for that matter. Waste of time and money! :D

Sorry for your troubles. I have one on my 2020 Street Scrambler. It has caused no issue so far.

Never hears of any issues, did you disconnect the battery when you installed it?

I most certainly wouldn’t mention that you have done the booster plug as I think that ANY reason to not fix it will be grabbed at.
It'd be a gift from the gods for triumph if they knew!
Could be completely coincidental of course but i'd keep very quiet.....

I'm sorry to hear your woes - they're wonderful bikes until they go wrong.

I'm very glad to hear you removed the Booster Plug before the dealer collected it, Triumph really do seem to use any possible excuse to avoid warranty repairs these days.
Having said that I had nothing but superb service when I was the first to have the tight wiring harness chafing around the headstock which led to the 2018 recall. I got a complete new loom fitted courtesy of Triumph with minimal quibbles.

I have a 2016 T120 and have had a Booster Plug fitted since 2017, no issues to date. I've never heard of anyone else suffering either so I would imagine your troubles are unrelated. As has been said: don't mention it!

Good luck, hope you're back on the road with a new ECU soon.

Listen to @Ducatitotriumph as he (she or it) not only knows about booster modules but also every form of egg related jokes.

    Definitely one to be respected.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I had a booster plug on my 1200RT without any issues so am hoping it is just coincidence. I am still waiting for the full feedback from my dealer. Will keep you informed when I know.

It has happened again. Went to use the bike on Saturday and it would not start. RAC turned up and diagnosed an ECU problem. Apparently, in his opinion, it is not the ECU itself, it is something else causing the ECU to shut down. Because of COVID and other restrictions the bike has only done 100 miles since it was returned from the last repair. Longed for one of these for ages and it has proven to be the most unreliable bike I have ever owned. Won't have Triumph's opinion on it for a while as the dealer cannot pick it up until April 28th.

Once it comes back working again it's time to get rid of it I think.

The bike is back from the dealers. They put it on the bench and it started straight away. They cannot find any fault. I sent them the report from the RAC that was completed when they looked at it (and could not start it) so that they could see the diagnostic data that they had and to substantiate that it was a genuine issue. My experience with the bike thus far does not particularly compel me to keep it but I don't want to pass it onto a new owner with an issue. Not sure where to go with this at the moment. I may wait until this issue raises it's head again and then get my local workshop to have a look at it. A couple of the guys there have owned Triumphs and they know their way around them pretty well.
