My 2015 T100 EFI has just recently started running a bit rough when I hold the throttle open particularly at low speeds. It accelerates great and I can't decide if it's a misfire or fuel starvation. It has done 30,000 miles. I have tried two new sets of plugs and was wondering if it was worth trying fuel injector cleaner. I have to admit it has not had a full service for years but I change the oil, oil and air filter every 5000 miles. It has never had any problems at all up till now. I also run it with a vacuum scottoiler and was wondering if this can cause issues with the fuel injectors Any thoughts. Davud
Fuel filter? Throttle bodies? Valve clearances? reg/rec? Earth/battery connections Coil? Leads failing? Poor/dry/corroded electrical connection? If you don't service a bike fully you end up with problems that are harder to find or eliminate.
As it's fuel injection , and low running speeds. I'd consider battery or regulator ! Electronic controlled engine's can respond badly and react/run in exactly the way you described if electrical system isn't in tip top condition ! And as @PatW says , valves or fuel filter , throttle position sensor or dirty dry electrical connectors plus low voltage !
A lot to consider there then. Not sure where to start other than get somebody else to have a look and get it done properly Thank you
My reply was a bit of a scatter gun/lecture and probably seemed unhelpful. I would advise you to get a Haynes or workshop manual and do a few basic checks and to save yourself some money, depending on how many tools you have and how confident you are. If you eliminate things like making sure you have a good battery and connections, change the fuel filter which a garage will charge you ££ for, there are instructional videos and tips on here in the air cooled twins section, don't get into anything that you're not confident with so you don't cost yourself more money to put right. Start with the easy stuff and try one thing at a time so you know what caused it. I'm sure the solutions above will sort things for you.
Thank you again. I will start with the fuel filter. I have a manual and I am sure I can manage that. It has 30000 miles on it now so it should be changed anyway. A process of elimination I suppose. There doesn't seem to be a lot of choice in the North East of England for good motorcycle mechanics anyway. Other than the Triumph dealer and they will take my eyes out and the shirt off my back
I'm in a completely different part of the country but I have had some dealings with Team Roberts a triumph dealer up north, in post Code DN12 4DY, they were helpful for parts. If you look on the forum here, there are perfectly good alternative fuel filters at much lower prices than genuine triumph. Note: the fuel filter on your bike is inside the fuel tank.
Yeah thanks I will try the fuel filter first. Doncaster is still 150 South of where I am but that looks like a good contact for parts I might give them a ring. Getting the parts is not the problem. Most of the good bike shops in the Newcastle area seem to be disappearing. So I will do it myself
It won't hurt to run injector cleaner thru a couple of tanks, I use it all the time. Do you run E10 or E5 fuel and how old is that fuel, could be water, rust? or general crap in filter or pipes. Weak spark due to dirty or knackered ht leads/caps. Try spraying wd40 over them and see if any improvement If it starts OK I would rule out valves but when were they last checked? As someone else said servicing is important as is checking regularly, oil changes alone although good is not enough.
I am using E10 petrol as the bike is supposed to be able to take it. It never gets old as I use the bike everyday for work. I think I will run some fuel injector cleaner first though its worth a try. A new fuel filter will be next. Just starting to look online for the parts. Yes I agree it should have been serviced before now. Just never got round to it cos its my main transport. Probably a bit lazy as well. Thank you
DGBland. I would never put e10 in my bike unless there was nothing else. To much ethanol. Irrespective of what people say or manuals. To many rubber and plastic bits between tank and plugs and e10 will eat any of them. Joe
