Hi all, I’m new on here so thanks for letting me join. I’ve just kinda purchased my first Triumph Sprint ST 1050 2006 model. I haven’t took delivery yet as when I arrived it wouldn’t start. I’m wondering if you could help.
It was running on 5 litres of new fuel the day before for 15mins on tickover to test temps on new antifreeze. Left it over night and then the next day it started poorly for a few seconds and seemed to drop a cylinder then died and won’t even attempt to fire. It feels like it’s ran out of fuel or being starved of it.

It turns over healthy but just won’t fire. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have a prime position on fuel tap? If so set to prime and try again after pressing tap inwards.
Check fuel flow, could be blockage in tank or filters.
Has the tank been off the bike, maybe fuel pipe kinked.

May do better posting this in tech section.

Do these have fuel taps? I haven’t seen one. The tank hasn’t been off no, although it’s going to have to come off now.

It looks like you don't have a tap on the bike. My old Sprint did but that had carbs, sorry.

No they don't have fuel tap.
If the bike stayed a long time without running you may have some water in fuel lines.
I'd try another start, check if fuel pump relays clics (the fifth from left to right).
Anyway, a tank removal will be necessary to check the air filter and if the intake ramp is clean.

Tunecu and a diag USB plug are worth the money too.

Good luck. My first Triumph is also a Sprint ST 1050 (2005) and now I've put everything in order it's a lot of a bike.
Probably one I'll keep for years.

So it looks like we have found the problem. The tank cap was stiff on the bike and had apparently been cleaned with WD40 (half a tin) as it was very stiff. That sorted the problem but the WD40 has gone into the tank of around 5 liters of fuel and overnight it sank to the bottom. On trying to start it in the morning it seems to have sucked this in and clogged it.

After removal of the tank and tipping over the fuel was clean but the last liter was cream. This had to be causing a clog or starvation of fuel.

The current owner has cleaned it all out and replaced the plugs and it's running well now. Sorted.

Good that it's sorted. They are brilliant bikes, deceptively fast and comfortable. Get the Triumph TOR can fitted if you can find one - lighter, runs cooler and that sound
