Kick starter hits muffler on my 1977 t140v
Does it mean the engine has shifted a bit?

More likely the zorsts have moved. Or, sometimes with replacement zorsts a different slightly cranked kickstarter is needed, such as megaphones etc.

Could have the wrong kickstart shaft, later bikes are slightly longer to clear silencers. Did it clear before, have you made any changes, we need more info.

Yes it cleared before. This just happened on the 3rd kick. It’s like the kick starter spindle has retracted all of a sudden.

Could have come loose on the shaft ? Or the splines are worn enough now and there's sufficient play ?

Thanks for all your input. It turns out that the problem is the kick starter lever is seriously cracked where the cotter pin goes. It dawned on me in a moment of “wait a minute”
I can’t tighten the cotter pin bolt completely. Cheers all.
