HI gang. Is anyone using the above shock on a Speedmaster 1200 ? I've had it with the back jarring OE shock. TIA Johnjo
I'm over it as well. I ordered a Wilbers 640 with a mechanical preload adjuster today. They're on sale! (about $500 plus shipping without the preload adjuster) https://www.wilbers.de/shop/en/Moto...a8d7325d67d8638364cf01dfacf2282d&redirected=1 I considered the Ohlins and the Matris, but for me I need quick preload adjustment since I ride 2-up a lot. Neither Ohlins or Matris has any mechanical preload adjusters available (I checked with both manufacturers and compared the threading to the univeral X-Trig adjusters). cc @Johnjo
Thanks for the reply Matthew. I haven't pulled the trigger yet. Choices other than the ohlins are the Matris m40d, Wilbers 640,and the Ikon 3610. I'm leaning towards the Wilbers too. I don't need the preloaded adjuster. The rear pillion seat/pad is too small and uncomfortable for my wife to ride pillion. Pricewise there's not a huge difference between any of them. Any of them should be an improvement over the standard shock. Would be great to hear from anyone who has fitted any of those shocks. I've adjusted mine again by increasing the preload. This has helped with minor road imperfections. I had been mistakingly been reducing the preload thinking that the softer setting would improve things. Cheers
Don't let that stock seat stop you! I can personally vouch for the Corbin although the price is pretty rough once you add heat and a passenger backrest... https://www.corbin.com/triumph/tsm18e.shtml Waiting on the 640 still, will definitely report back..
In regards to the seat issue, I've been looking at Corbin's offering for the Speedmaster. My wife has given me a nod to possibly adding another bike to the stable which may preclude me from replacing the Triumph comfort seats.(I really like the retro styling of the Triumph issue seats!) The Corbin is a single unit for both operator & pillion. It would be a ok replacement but if I can get a sport tourer with more amenities I am going that direction.
I had been looking at the corbin seat too. I've settled for the original shock now I've adjusted it properly. Corbin list 2 UK suppliers for their seats. One was uncontactable and has since disappeared from the website. I phoned the other contact and got a return call from the guy who is in Australia ??? Sent him an email detailing the gunfighter style seat I wanted. Never received a reply. Plan B. I sourced a pair of brown quilted seats instead. Early signs are good but I haven't been on a long run yet. My bike came with the comfort seat fitted. It looks as if it should be really comfortable. But I find that after 60 - 80 minutes riding its not. Seems to flatten out after a while. I'm not particularly heavy either ( about 160 lbs ). Good luck sourcing a sports tourer. My last few bikes have been of that ilk. The speedmaster was a massive departure from my usual style of ride. It has definitely slowed me down which was the intention.
When I was picking up my new Speedmaster last week I asked the same question about a better rear shock and the dealer said the Fox rear shock was the one to have. Having been a mountain biker over the years, I know Fox make some of the very best forks and rear shocks in the business. Anyone tried the Fox? I would imagine the Ohlins would be pretty stiff seeing as they specialise in racing suspension.
