Good evening everyone, This past weekend I went and looked at a 2017 Street Twin. Dealer is asking $7,200 and bike has 3,000k miles. Posted some pictures below. This would be my first Triumph. Looking for insights from knowledgeable owners. Thoughts on getting the bike as my first ever Triumph? I know in 2019 Triumph upgraded the Street Twin, but it has been hard to find a good deal that fits in budget for a 2019+ model. Thanks in advance, Tim
I would definitely beat the guy up on price to see what you can get out of him. Don't know what your riding resume is but Street Twins are really good beginner bikes in general that I'm told you won't outgrow too quickly. For me when it comes to things like this it's a question of simply how bad I want it. If my sites are set I don't let a couple hundred bucks get in my way. Check the Blue Book value and see what you can haggle him down to. I'd say the bike's age will lean things in your favor a bit. Use the '19 upgrades as leverage. Good luck.
I am a beginner. I used to have a xs650 that I rode for a year before selling. If I do go to purchase it, it would be in the stable for a while. From the research I've done, the 2017 model has good power and can be upgraded in areas if needed. I'd love to get a 2019+ model; but don't think I can get the out the door price to stay within my budget. Tim
I had a 2018 Street Twin and loved it, only just changed to an 850 Tiger. I miss the ride and looks of the Street Twin, but I can't afford to keep two bikes. The Street Twin is a lovely easy going ride with in my view lovely looks and finish. I would have kept it, but was finding that I was doing longer rides hence the change to a taller bike with screen. The Twin can absolutely do long trips, at least in the summer, or with a few extras, but it is more of a country road fun bike in my view. The Twin has bundles of torque so it feels like it just takes everything in its stride. I felt no need for performance upgrade as I don't race around, I did change the tyres to Scorpion Trail II though. Two performance upgrades you could consider are TEC camshaft for power and sintered brake pads, that would put you close to the 2019 bike.
I would expect you'll find it familiar but with better handling and more modern convenience. I have a 2018 Street Cup which is the cafe racer sibling to the Street Twin and I love it. The power curve does hit a bit of a brick wall at about 4000rpm which is what the TEC cam addresses, and the 2019 model upgrade addresses. But the only time I really notice that small "complaint" is on UK motorways at British motorway speeds (something I try not to do they're not pleasant places). For nipping round ordinary roads at around the speed limit its great. Possible upgrades for the 2017 model as mentioned by @Notso are good and you may find you're not too keen on the Pirelli tyres if it still has them. So getting a deal on the 2019 model would be good, but you really shouldn't be disappointed with the 2017 model. I can't spend your money but I'd say go for it.

I bought mine new in 2017 and have now covered 45,000 trouble free miles on it. They are a great, forgiving bike and will always put a smile on your face. As others have said change the tyres for more suitable rubber, I use Avon Storms which are great. Best upgrade after tyres progressive front springs and EBC HH brake pads.
I bought my 2017 model with 800km on it for USD 6,250. I am very happy with it for short rides around the city. As everyone knows the brakes are a little under strength and the OEM tyres are not the best. You might outgrow it in a couple of years but the ST provides the classic motorcycle experience, very basic, no screen, just twist the throttle and smile!
Just to add that it’s a good bike to customise as well, without over capitalising. I have done small things including a radiator guard, headlight bezel and grill, fuel cap and in future some side covers and bobbins/ spindle. Brake upgrade probably a really good bet first though.
Had 5 great yrs with mine but let her go last November for a T120 which is the bike I should of got back in 2016. If you are anyway approaching the 6ft (i’m 5’11) mark you will find the street twin small! 5’8-5’9 would be a max imo!…however it’s a great little machine especially with the upgraded camshaft which I had to do myself to my 1st gen….good luck mate☘️
Collinst15 Welcome to the family. Get the bike that you can afford. No good having a bike if you over spent on the purchase and can't ride the thing. The other point is they keep their value so well when you have recouped you can then move on the the newer bike. But as someone said haggle plenty may get something in the deal. Joe.
I agree with all of the comments above. Looks good and rides well. My only issue with the bike was the five speed gear box. I know lots of folk don’t see it as issue, but I was always looking for a six gear.
Good afternoon everyone, Just a small update. I unfortunately am out of the area where the Street Twin is longer than expected, so I started searching the local classifieds and found similar motorcycles for sale. I found a 2017 Bonneville T120 with 5700 miles locally and seller is asking 7500. It does have some damage from a static drop on foot pegs and exhaust that you can see in the pictures of ad. I am going to look at it this weekend and if I purchase it I'll start a new thread. Thank you all for the input regarding the Street Twin.
Exhaust and footpegs should be an easy fix/replacement….you won’t be disappointed with the T120, it is a superb machine and a great allrounder…as you’ll see when you test ride it!
Well, I got a message from the seller of the T120 late last night stating they could not find the title. I unfortunately will not be local once a duplicate from NY DMV is sent. The search is still on! Looking forward to eventually joining the Triumph Family! Tim
