Today I had a lunch date scheduled with a friend whom I've not seen in about three years. It was a beautiful day and I had a new seat on my Fat Boy just waiting to be tried out so I decided to ride the bike to lunch. La Encantada, the upscale indoor/outdoor mall where we met up, has a number of restaurants and we chose a Mexican place called Blanco. There's actually designated motorcycle parking in a parking area near the restaurant. I've always found it interesting that this mall has MC parking. I've love to know the story behind that as it's a rarity. Today my bike was the only motorcycle there. You'll be proud of me, @Ducatitotriumph! Tacos two out of the last three days. Today it was fried avocado tacos with black beans and rice and an herbal iced tea. After lunch I decided to ride a bit more since the weather was so nice--sunny skies and temperatures right around 60ºF. Even so, I had on a base layer long sleeve shirt, a turtleneck sweater, and an REI vest under my leather jacket. And I definitely wasn't hot. From La Encantada I rode across town about 10 miles to Tucson H-D to check on the status of the parts I have on order for my Fat Boy. Of course I could have just called on the phone but what fun is that? Plus it was an excuse to ride more and to look at motorcycles. I learned that there are still four things out on back order. "Supply chain issues. There were a couple off wild paint jobs in the parking lot today--one a bike and one a helmet. Chris, a salesmen I've known for several years now and from whom I bought my Fat Boy, mentioned the same Fat Boy to me that another salesman showed me a week or two ago when it was still in the back room shortly after the dealership acquired it. It's a 2001 Fat Boy, so 20 years older than my Fat Boy and the same year as the Fat Boy that Mr. Sandi had! It's interesting to see the similarities and differences in the model from then until now. This 2001 has a number of mods to it that are fairly different than stock but some of the iconic Fat Boy features are still readily evident like the wheels, the tank badge design, the fat tires, and the chunky nacelle. Mr. Sandi is contemplating finding a Fat Boy from around 2000-2001 to do as a project bike with our friend, Roe, who has a great workshop and loves to "rehab" older bikes. We'll see if that happens. I'm hoping it does!
Unlike Sandi, he is perhaps my neck of the woods so I'll keep my eyes open for it. Glad you made it unscathed - that's the important thing.
I really like how the modern rims are vented rather than solid. I’m sure you’re enjoying riding it @Sandi T
He was heading north between J1 and J2 and he wasn’t hanging about. Caught him up to get his plate but he got dangerous after that swapping lanes and undertaking before getting off at J3 where he fortunately had an empty lane on the outside just as the lights changed and with the less than ideal road surface I couldn’t get close enough to see where he went after that. He knew he’d pissed me off and it’s probably a good job we didn’t end up meeting cos I’d have spoilt my manners, if you see what I mean Aaaaaaaand, breathe #letitgo
Sadly I’d not reconnected it after I’d had the bike on a trickle charge for a few days, it uses the same power supply straight from the battery. Hey, ho
My rims actually are not vented, Dartplayer. However, the ones on the 2022 models are. Between the two, I prefer the ones I have to the newest version. And it's REALLY easy to get to my valve stems. Always important.
Avocado tacos in the sunshine seems like a positively winning day to me @Sandi T even before you factor the motorbikes in!!
Finally got round to putting on the soft luggage on the Beemer.for shorter trips Went for the SW Motech Sys15 which easily attaches to my existing SWM Pro racks. Think they look ok and seem great quality.
I like those bags! To my eye the bags are more sleek and less boxy and square than the standard hard bags I see on most ADV bikes. But then, I'm not an ADV gal so what do I know. Based on these bags, I'll have to take a look at SW Motec products to see what else they offer. Where is that company located?
Getting braver {and warmer}. Got the 1200RS out {our first ride} for a journey to the parking lot for some figure 8s... Brilliant. I need some work {another surgery}, the bike is great. Went to Harleys {for 20 years} as the RS was just too fast, tempting. Hopefully, I have mellowed a bit.
Hope your surgery goes smoothly and you heal quickly whatever it's for, @Georgez. That RS is a beautiful bike! Glad you've gotten out. What Harleys did you have over those 20 years?
Thanx, Harleys... '72 FLh, '99 Aztec Orange RKClassic, '99 883Custom, '01 1200S, '01 {Arrest me RED} FXDWG2 and a '97 White & Blue Springer. Now it's an '89 FXR and the '68 XLCH... Black & Blue. The surgery will be the left shoulder.
Wow, @Georgez! That's quite the lineup. You could practically start your own museum if you'd kept them all. My hubby used to have a 2013 Road King Classic. I'd love to see a photo of your two current bikes--particularly the '89 FXR. I'm a fan. Best wishes on a smooth surgery on that left shoulder and on the healing process.
