This is my first Triumph that I may buy. Local seller has this 1977 T140V for sale for 3K. Good title and seems pretty complete. Does not run at this time but has good compression. Does have Mikuni carbs on it now. However, he would throw in the Amal carbs with side covers. Also offering a warranty as if there are any mechanical problems, he would refund my money. Just was wondering if this is a good deal or not. Also any thing I should be aware of on this model. Numbers do match. Thanks to all.
No idea on US prices as they are all over the place, 3000 does not sound bad as one in the UK would be 4 ish, why not ask he will get it running before you buy though.
Mitchsnap Welcome to the family. It seems a reasonable deal to me. But like Darkman said it would be nice to hear it fire up. But if you are handy with the spanners and electric knowledge it might be worth the risk. I would to check for good spark and fuel getting to the head as it may simply be blocked carbs or duff plugs if you get really lucky. But try for a reduction in price for a project bike. Also find out some more about the bike live service history and mileage on the clocks. Joe.
A T140V for £2200 is a good price as a project over here. I know stuff is a lot cheaper in the States. Even better that he can't get it working but he's happy to give a warranty on mechanicals. Yep, it'd do for me.
That looks a good buy at that price. As mentioned above, bikes like it in similar condition are rare over here and fetch strong money. Compared to modern Stuff with ECU controlled everything, bikes from this era are really simple machines to work on. If it has good compression you're halfway home. Mikuni's (and the Amal) are easy to work on and clean and the ignition system easy to fault.
So I went over to look at the bike today. Kick the kick starter and it felt strong. Seems like good compression. There are not Mikuni‘s on this motorcycle. They are actually Amal. But they are not the correct ones. He has the correct ones he’s going to put them on and get the motorcycle running and check it all out for 2500. Naturally it’s going to need tires and a lot of TLC. The gas tank needs to go out. I’m sure I’ll find other things that need to be taken care of.
Looks a very good price for a T140V. Carbs look like Mk2 Amal concentric. Here was me and mine back in 1976.
buy now. think later. if it turns with or without compression and clicks through tbe gears its worth that money.
gas tank is ok and correct for export-model bonnie; why you wanna get rid of it? or is it rusty inside and leaky?
