Looking at one or two mods on the wife's 2016 Street to make it a little easier to tour on. Has anyone fitted a screen or the nose cowl off the older Street onto the new one? Anyone gone one tooth down on the front sprocket? First gear is so tall..... just want to get it a little closer to the previous model. (yes I know it will rev a little higher in top on motorways, but its low speed maneuvering and slipping the clutch in traffic all the time) Anyone fitted bar risers? Any problem with cable length? Found out that Triumph do a full mudguard version of their street only offered abroad so Jack Lilly can get me one to replace the stalk number plate holder, should keep she who must be obeyed back cleaner and dryer. Possibly should have considered a low Tiger 800 but the Street is the perfect size for her.
We tried for quite a while to get my wife's Street to do touring. It wasn't very successful to be honest. But as with your wife it did fit her very well. I think we've got a couple of screens in the garage that your welcome to try, there off a '10 but may fit. I was going to fit these to my Speed but never got round to ordering them, should fit. http://www.tripletek.eu/#/20mm-spacer-kit/4586581860 Hope you can get it sorted for her
Sounds like your in exactly the same situation we we're in. She loved her Street but it wasn't doing the job we needed it to do.She tried a Tiger(not the low) nut never felt confident on it,to top heave and on tip toes, especially at low speed. Our search lasted nearly a year but in the end she had to leave Triumph and she went for a BMW R1200R. I know this sounds bizarre but the standard seat is 790mm with the low being 760mm. It's a heavy bike but the boxer engine keeps the weight low and has more than enough power, with the high screen she can cruise at 80 with no problems. She feels very confident on it and has no trouble moving it around, she has back issues(slipped a disc 3 times) so weight was a major issue as was comfort. I can honestly say it's the ideal bike for her. It's definitely worth a test ride. Good luck
Would have thought the weight would be a problem. I've gone to a cruiser due to the height issue ( inside leg only 29" ) Again weight low down so that may be a style for her to consider in the future.
Interesting day, we took Pidcock Nottingham's Tiger 800 XR for a demo and Carol enjoyed riding it, comfort was good with less weight on her damaged wrist. Liked the engine, but not as much as the Street's, she managed to bump the rev limiter a couple of times as the Tiger is not so free reving. She didn't like the buffeting and wind noise from the Tiger's screen; describing the noise as horrendous. Verdict...... she still likes riding the Street more; its more fun, lighter and as far as she is concerned it looks nicer. So she is going to do next months Scotland tour on the Street and see how it goes. Mods so far on the Street: Belly pan, front cowl, heated grips, full engine crash protection including sliders, paddock stand bobbins, S W Motech Sports tank bag with quick release tank ring, SW Motech Blaze soft panniers. We have also bought the item below which is supplied by Triumph in some countries (not here) and when fitted over the existing stalk number-plate stem will make a full mudguard for the back
I'm sure many owners will hate the look of this but its on to do a job. Its a Triumph part; Jack Lilley Triumph were very helpful and got it to us next day.
Threads like this make me smile. You can tour on anything. I'm currently sitting in Gaucin in Andalucia having ridden down from Glasgow on my street two up. Having said that I have put a Givi frame for my soft Oxford panniers and it also has a top box. It's ugly and removed when it's not being used but does the job. Three days riding and day on the ferry. we're in the sunshine, ready to ride to Ronda tomorrow.
Just loading up for next week's camping tour of Scotland, SW Motech blase panniers, Redverse tent strapped to pillion seat with Rokstraps, and large SW Motech tank bag looks like a touring bike now.
The ear mudguard thingy is a must. I'm still cleaning the back of my leather jacket after riding a Street in the rain!
Just to update this old thread I did a vid on touring with the Street. The good news is she is feeling the love once more for her bike. (but now quite likes the look of the 765 RS!)
Very practical for a bike that is being used and not just polished. Good on yer! Excellent helpful video as well for all the touring gear
Great video Richard. The Mrs has a 2016 Street, I have the Speed and we're on the lookout for some touring accesory ideas.
