My little village escaped. Huddersfield is about 10 miles away and is not a place I'd want to live, particularly. As with every town though, it has a nicer area with some fine old houses. My nearest town (about 2-3 miles) is apparently 'mediocre', but the description's bit harsh, I'd say.
After a brief look through the list I'm glad to see nowhere in Cheshire made the grade, maybe I should appreciate where I live more. I did wonder if Macclesfield might scrape in but fortunately it didn't and neither did Stockport, although technically that's not in Cheshire anymore. What did seem fairly consistent throughout comments about these towns was the description of people that live there. Sounds like some sort of underclass. I never know whether to feel sorry for them or blame them for accepting such low standards and doing nothing to help themselves, which I'm sure is easier said than done.
Well I live on the outskirts of Oldham (13th) and I must admit it's grim. It's one of those towns that the government sends lots of asylum seekers to, I think in an attempt to persuade them to go back to where they came from. Oldham does however have some very beautiful countryside around the edges. I never go into the town itself. For your entertainment, here is a link to a 1976 tourist film about Oldham or as it's pronounced locally Owdam.
Less about the interviewer, who is a bit a self-absorbed (but then it is his channel I guess) but much more about the interviewee... “Chopper” Charlie Weisel... a fairly laid back dude who has travelled globally on his fully rigid chopper. If you want to follow his adventures on instagram, look up “travelling chopper”
Great video and what an absorbing unassuming dude. His wife is in the forces and goes on tour so he gets on his chop and goes on his own tours. He'll be over here in Europe again this year. Ships his bike over and enjoys. Great. Shame I don't do the instagram whatsit.
I don’t know if any of you like 2 strokes, but I’ve been following this dry, sardonic, rum-swilling Norwegian engineer for a while now… not everyone’s cup of tea, but the more I watch the better the unfolding story is… https://youtube.com/c/2STROKESTUFFING
Here’s a nice little video on a subject that a lot of us may have in our garage... I suspect a few more will start being filled up again soon!
