Big round black one's ! Had my America from new , mixed and mixed front and rear tyres , only ever had same brand and model on at new and two years ago. Doesn't seem to make any difference , it's a cruiser !! Never been able to get near the tyres cornering limits , been around Perth's Barbagallo race track on two separate weekends several years apart on different tyres. Done 135,000 km so far but not as I'm sure that will help most . I can't recommend wet weather performance tyre's as although I do ride if it rains , we don't really get that much of the stuff in Western Australia. cheers capt
Jon Higgins Welcome to the family. Yes when i had my America it was Avon's transformed the handling. Do hit the upload a file button bottom right corner and show the inmates your steed. Joe.
You don't mention what kind of rider you are. I ride my America for long distance sometimes. I am not capable of pushing the bike to its limits, really, not even close. So... the thicker the tread the safer I feel in the rain. And those times when I do get stuck in the rain and can't get off the road, (oh s**t) I am very careful and slow down. (I hate it) Anyway I like tires that last long. They start with what... 4.5mm of tread? I feel safest from tire failure when I am in the first 10K of the tread. I worry more about flat tires in the desert than I do 90mph corners. I replaced the Michellin commanders on my America after three years. But now.. they changed them to be Commander III's..... softer and slightly better handling (per their website) but don't wear as long. For you riders who talk about better grip... I am amazed that A: you can confidently push your bike so far around curves that you start to slide. and B: you can judge one tire being more sticky. I def go a long ways on long rides, looking at the cows, riding near the speed limits, so I am not willling to give up longevity for sticky.
I ride some long distances and I tow a 240kg (when loaded) canvas popup camper trailer , I did a 11,500 ish km round trip over 7 weeks, in 2019 ! Went Pert to Darwin. I've done 135,000 km on My 2008 America , Two trip's to Bundaberg in Queensland ,towing ! First trip had a light weight cargo trailer , second the camper ~10,500+ km round trips. I do day trips up to ~800km round.. I've been riding 40 years. Since 19 yrs old turn 60 in 20 days time. I'm a mixed rider , wet doesn't worry me in the least - with a Pillion I definately slow down if I've been pushing along on the limit... I've had seven bikes from new and done 500,000 to 600,000 km average 100,000 per , done 161,000 on a "94 Trident.
