I have a 2015 speed triple, i had a datatool alarm fitted when purchased, just been playing around with some wiring / electrics and realised if im not wrong. Taking the three screws out of the battery cover gives you access to the battery. If someone wanted my bike ( unauthorised of course ) all they would need is an allen key to uncouple the battery and hence no alarm triggered. may well be a good alarm system but is this an oversight or am i missing something. seat is also alarmed Can i place another sensor under the battery panel? emailed datatool but no reply as yet cheers
I don't remember the specifics of the Datatool alarm but would expect it has an on-board rechargeable battery which will sound the alarm when it detects a power loss (standard practice for alarms). There's usually a maintenance mode so that you can disable the alarm when you need to disconnect the main battery. I hope for your sake they've improved reliability, nearly bought one when I had the SprintST1050 several years back but saw so many posts on forums asking how to remove them due to problems that I changed my mind. Bought an alarmed disk lock instead, if that plays up I'm not left with an immobilized bike. ...Just saying Check whether the dealer has left you with the plug (has a couple of loop wires) that goes in place of the alarm when not fitted. As long as you have that I believe it's fairly straight forward to go back to standard if ever needed.
Datatool alarm systems run off the battery, it also features it's own independant battery pack. If the bike's battery is disconnected, the alarm will go off. If someone takes off the seat by force, the alarm will go off in the process. If someone then touches the alarm casing, the alarm will go off. How long would you say it would take to do both of these things with your ears pulsating, I'd reckon maybe 6-8 minutes with not caring for the seat's condition.
