    Hey all,
I used to ride sports bikes but gave it all up for comfort, family and convenience. New job in closer in towards london had me musing about getting a bike. I was in no hurry but somehow ended up with a 97 Tbird.

I have not missed biking these last 12 years but, by gawd, its good to be back in the saddle. As the Zen and the Art... Book says with bikes there is no frame. You are present in the moment. That's a gift that keeps on giving.

I took her to Wales and the Malvern a couple of weeks back and she loved it, was built for it. So much more comfortable than the racing crouch of a sports bike, although not so good at the 100mph motorway missile thing, but that's OK. If I wanted that I would have got a blackbird. I think the Bb offers amazing value for money actually, but the triumph is a work of art and the pop of the over run cannot be beaten.

Even though its getting colder I just can't seem to hybernate her. Poor thing has had only dry miles for years. It must be a shock. I'm looking after her though and will lavish care and get to know her well. Which is why I'm here, doing my homework. Thanks all.

Welcome in matey. Those old birds are damned decent bikes and have more soul than some of the newer models......not more than my T509 tho. Lol

Hello Stu, a better way of protecting your bike is to drop the postcode from your signature page, not everyone who looks in on here is doing it cos they are Triumph lovers.
    Enjoy the bike.

Welcome. Somewhat new to Triumph here. Got off a Victory. Went for a year without a bike, It DID bother me! Looked at a pre-owned America and a T Bird at the dealership. Nice bikes, but decided to buy new - Speedmaster. Yes, post some pics!

    Thanks for the friendly welcome.
Pics are from the recent Wales trip. Got a B&B in the Shropshire Hills. Day 2 got as far as Bala before looping back via the reservoir. Day 3 was the home bound leg via Malverns. Not that far away and I felt I was in Lord of the Rings. Next time I'll make the first leg longer and make it to Snowdonia.

    Lovely bike.
Do you recommend the flat bars as a job worth doing? It certainly looks good but I find the standard bars v comfy so I'm not rushing into anything.

For me it was definitely the way to go. With my height (187 cm), I feel it gives me a better posture on the bike, resulting in better control in the twisties. It's an original handlebar - an original, NOS Norton handlebar...

Sounds like your new-to-you Tbird has finally found herself a good home with someone who will love and care for her. And also, welcome back to biking! Yes, riding helps us be present in the moment and definitely is a gift that keeps on giving.
