    Hi

I won a 1993 trident 900 sprint the other day and being an incompetent mechanic it does make this mad but so much fun.

I went into the garage today to find a puddle of petrol under the bike, the battery flat so no issues yet :)

After contacting the guy who delivered it I found out that the tap was not in horizontal position properly (not my fault) and this has solved the leak (I hope). New battery ordered.

Getting the seat off is a bit of a pain as have to pull the cord under the seat and hope the seat comes off. I will be asking for help to put that right later. First though I am learning how to start the bike and it not cut out, After a good few attempts and maybe flooding it I succeeded.

Just seen this thread .... replied to your earlier post with same info about fuel tap. Glad it's now sorted.
There should be a keyhole/lock on the left side pillion foot peg bracket which is used for unlocking the seat. The ignition key should fit it.
    Hope the picture helps.

    Hi Steve

Thanks again, yes I know about the key but either the lock is fxcked or the cable as turning the key does not move the wire in the cable to release the seat.

So at present have been told to pull at the cable hanging by the rear fairing near the lock. I will need to get that sorted

    best wishes

    Hi Steve

took the lock apart and the plastic inside has worn away one side, do you know where I could get a new (secondhand) lock as will transfer the plastic section to my lock so I can keep the key

    thanks Graham

Hi Graham. Looks like the lock body is available to back order :-

Part number 15 on the diagram.

If £37 is a bit too heavy for you you could always try some of the specialist breakers :-

Welcome to the 'T300 Club', by the way. You're at the beginning of what is likely to be an occasionally bumpy and frustrating journey - enjoy!

Put an extra washer under each of the bolts, when you refit the mechanism. It raises it a bit, and makes it much easier to get the seat on and off.

No matter what position the tap is left in,The only reason it would flood, is if the float needles are not shutting the fuel off. Check the oil level, and smell it for petrol. It is common on these cheap shit carbs, to allow fuel into the bore, and down into the sump. I just fitted carb rebuilt kits today, and one of them was pissing fuel afterwards. The float, and how it it fitted, is the cheapest, crap design i have ever come across. No retaining pin, just 2 tiny o rings to hold it in place. Unbelievably shit design. Sprint are the people for parts in the UK..If your carbs are Mikuni, This is what you need. Along with a shit load of patience to fit them. https://www.triumphparts.co.uk/product/mikuni-carburettor-super-repair-kit/

    Thank you

have managed to sort the problem out but really appreciate you taking the time to help. Now I have a probable misfire as middle cylinder exhaust pipe is cold and the bike is riding like a dog when cold.

going to take to local motorbike shop and hopefully get this resolve hope its a simple spark plug issue.

    best Graham

I have the same problem, and suspect middle cylinder is not firing, due to either plug or lead. I fitted 3 new coils yesterday, as middle one has burnt on the outside. so it cant be much else. Strange how it will run fine when i wind it up though ?

Agree Mick seems to be a right dog when called and starting off but when getting a move on seems better.

    Hi Mick

I am not thinking of such drastic action but more likely to sell if I get any more issues.I am hoping Barry the magician at Penrith Motorcycles will solve it and nothing more will go wrong. Biking is meant to be fun so understand where you are coming from, lucky for me it's a second bike.
