Evening folks! Looking to upgrade the headlights on my street triple for something a bit brighter and whiter, if possible!? Was told the Osram night breaker was the one to go for but open to any suggestions others have tried or currently use?
Look on Facebook under TTRUK-(triumph triple riders UK) Pure Hooligan. There is a guy on there called Rick Perkins, he is doing 3 pistons LED kits for a street and getting good reviews
I'd like to upgrade the lights on my Explorer I've just ordered. The originals look the same as my Tiger 800 and I'd like whiter/brighter headlights. I have the fog lights fitted, and feel the need to use them all the time in order to be seen.
The basic problem with standard (incandescent) bulbs is that the brighter they burn the shorter they live. Whacky shaped reflectors don't always help either - however visually appealing. LED bulbs throw out more light but the scatter can fall foul of MoT testers. Pragmatically you can fit a premium bulb but expect to replace it.....quite often.
I have been looking into changing out the bulbs for brighter ones, however when looking in the UK MOT Regulations (and speaking with a friendly MOT tester) it seems that a simple change of LED bulbs into stock headlight unit will be an MOT fail......has anyone experienced this? lastly is there any recomendations for good replacement bulbs to give a brighter spread during night time driving?
Had HID LED bulbs in my ST1050 for about 6 mots at three different MOT garages and never mentioned once thankfully as the main beam was a knuckle skinning experience. Have seen reg’s quoted on here but in my experience logic applies to a lot of testers, as long as the bike is safe they’ll pass it. Always have used garages and mot testing stations as opposed to bike shops. The lights make a difference and help you get spotted but not so much now with all new cars having them fitted. There’s plenty’s of cheap ones on eBay and they work fine. If you don’t want to go hid you can get just led replacements now so would be easier to swap if an issue. Would ask where you get your mot first to get their thoughts and make the decision.
thanks for the response, the friendly MOT tester I mentioned is where I get the bike MOT'd, will just maybe fit the LED ones and see if it passes, thanks again.
if you are not interested in installing any LED kit, I would recommend Philips X-tremeVision bulb. I replaced the factory installed standard bulb on my new T100 and compared to that it really makes a lot of difference. Just FYI, the Philips light it is noticeably more "white".

Gave Phillips X extreme bulbs a go on my Volvo twice but they burn very hot and do not last as long as normal bulbs as the headlights were always on like most bikes nowadays. It depends on how many miles/hours you are going to use them, they are nice and bright but I think led or hid led are the way to go and they certainly last a long time and consume less energy on a bike’s system.
