Hello guys! My Speed triple -06 is getting some fresh rubber. I'm looking at the Michelin pilot road 5 and the Pirelli Angel GT 1 & 2. I'm looking for tire with good grip and long life. Having very good wet properties isn't really that important as I don't ride in the rain. Therefore I'm a bit sceptical to the pilot road 5 as they seem to be optimised for wet conditions. I will probably do a majority of touring miles on twisty roads and some freeway, maybe a couple of track days this summer. What are your suggestions? Long life is my main priority. Best regards J
The 2 you mentioned are perfect! The road 5's turn in faster and provide lots of feedback, but can feel a little harsh at times. Must have a very stiff carcass. The angel gt's, slightly less sporty but still very good, nice ride and last a little longer. Thats my experience of the 2 anyway.
I'm not liking the thread pattern of the pilot road 5, visually. However after some more digging the Angel 2 seems to be sketchy on grooved pavement, didn't sound nice at all..
I used to have the Pilot Road 4's on my Multistrada. I hated the turn in on them, removed them off the bike before they were fully worn out, probably had about 40% life left on them. Tried different pressures, nothing fixed it, had no confidence in the tire. Swapped out for Angel GT2's on the recommendation of my mechanic. While I used to race, I just take it easy on the streets now, but the predictability and confidence in the GT2 as well as the wear on the tire made me fall in love. As soon as my Super Corsa's wear out on my Speed RS (which wont be too long), I am gonna put the Angel GT2 on.
Got the Michelin Road 5 tires on mine. There are unbeatable on wet surface. The life is a bit less good than the previous generation though. I'm not used to other type of tires. But I can tell I'm feeling pretty confident when I take a curve.
I've just had some gt2's fitted and I have to say they feel great,I've only done approx 400miles but they warm up quickly, turn in nicely and gives great confidence, I do only have experience with the Bridgestone battlax and am new to riding so my review won't be much help but my experience so far is positive.
