    EBAY BEWARE!!!!!!

Ive just found out that EBay now charge 12.3% of the final transaction fee, so if my bike (Ducati Scrambler) that I had advertised on there sold for 5k they would take £640, the last time I sold a bike they charged 1% capped at £45, I’ve been on the phone to them and I’m assured that they are correct and they will change 12.3% with no cap!, I clarified that I’m a private seller but they were adamant that the 12.3 is correct, so I’ve ended the listing and they have agreed not to charge the insertion fee, has anyone else had this happen or similar?, unbelievable!!!

Here’s part of the chat, the majority of my communication was on the phone afterwards but they only confirmed what’s in the chat, all this about they used to charge 10% is rubbish, the last bike I sold on there went for 3k and they charged £45, I’ve ended the listing for my Scrambler and will put it on auto trader or similar, jeez! Anything over £2.5 k is charged at 3% from then on.
So, 12.8% upto £2.5k and then 3% for the rest.
Still not great but not as bad as 12.8% all in.

Yes I’ve seen that as well, not what the operative said in the chat but it’s probably correct, hard to know because when you go on the eBay site there’s lots of conflicting information, so what’s that over 400 to sell a 5k bike?, they have got to be bloody kidding!, it’d be cheaper to sell it at Bonhams! :)

You just wait till they put on the 'sell for a pound' promotion. Thats the only time I will sell on ebay. Read the terms though, if you edit your listing it will be eligible for fees for example.

Panic over, I went onto the eBay community site and they said ignore eBay chat, most of the reps don’t know what they are talking about, so here is what actually happens, if it’s a vehicle the sale is capped at £45 just as it’s always been, so I’ve relisted, I went back on chat, the rep agreed that the other 3 reps I’d spoken to were talking rubbish, he refunded my insertion fee, apologised and wrote very clearly that I would not receive any extra charges, no doubt all this may have damaged my chances of selling as people will wonder why the item ended and then reappeared, but hey if it doesn’t sell that’s not a tragedy, what a day!

Also, don't forget now with Ebay they don't pay you via PayPal, it goes straight to you. So no PayPal fees.
