I was kinda set on a Speedmaster or Bobber to (possibly) replace my Kawasaki Z900RS but since there's a lot of roundabouts and sharp corners where I live and ride, the peg scraping would kinda worry me so I think I would be better off with a bike with higher lean angles. So the Speed Twin or Thruxton. I do like to take longish trips so I guess the Thruxton RS is out of the picture then (tested one for a few mins, felt great engine wise). Looked at the Speed Twin, but it seems it got no upgrades like the other Bonnevilles? Any rumours about this? Give me the Speed Twin with the Thruxton RS engine and suspension with full LED and I think I would buy instantly.
Speed Twin is a newer model than the original water cooled Bonnevilles (T100, T120 etc) so Triumph probably won't bother.

So that's why I looked at the Speed Twin...but then I see it should have some things the Thruxton RS has... So guess I'll wait a little until summer? Bad period to launch a bike btw, should launch around march. Would hate ordering a Twin and seeing a new one being announced a few weeks later :/
Yeah, for some reason the marketing folks at Triumph will only allow “safe” colors. Unfortunately, that also means “boring”. Do they actually ride motorcycles? These things are supposed to be fun! The new Speed Triple RS, which is a motorcycle which cannot be ridden sensibly, comes in... silver and matte black. It’s as though when they came to colorways they forgot the bike’s mission.
I dont care about more power, the engine is an absolute peach. They do need to significantly upgrade the suspension as its the worst I have used in 30year. Out last night and any bump or undulation and its wanting to put me in a hedge or onto the other side of the road. Horrible. Wobbling and weaving down the road in a straight line at speed. Entertaining? Nope. Well damped suspension should be. Peach of an engine, great tyres, great brakes (that you can hardly use their performance) and chassis but with Chinese (Thailand!?) commuter suspension. Triumph know my feelings, sure I am not alone so I expect at least a better front fork. (The worst culprit IMHO) My suspension kitty is taking longer than I hoped. Will be making my own "R."
My first message here, as I am slowly considering buying a Bonneville and got to the same conclusion: the Speed Twin is fantastic as it is but, damn, just give it the front USD-fork, in a R version, otherwise, as someone else said, I don't buy cause I am too worried that Triumph offer that "Speed Twin R" in a couple of months after my purchase ! We understand that Triumph plays the product range, drop by drop, to give slight advantages to each model of the Bonnie range, but as a consequence, potential clients seeing that improvements are just so easily available, can even be assembled by a DIY garage... they fear to buy too early and regret it a couple of weeks later ! It is everywhere, don't tell me Triumph is the only one not thinking of it ! So I think I find here a good reason to hold back my decision to buy a new bike... What they fear probably is that by doing so, they will not sell any Thruxton anymore. It is not so much about the 5 extra-BHP but really the suspension setup of the Thruxton which looks so good on the Speed Twin (see the Youtube above who did the modification)...
Can't help but think that if Triumph did bring out an R version it would cost more and that might put some people off as well. Also I wonder how many people actually go to the bother of playing around with their settings on the suspension unless the ride is so bad that they feel the need too. Although I did go to the extreme of upgrading my suspension to KTEC front and rear it was simply because the standard units were too stiff for my weight. Personally I prefer the looks of a conventional front forks on the Speed Twin over upside down ones although I would feel different if I owned a Street Triple or similar.
In all fairness to the 1200 speed twin its a fantastic road bike that only req a little time n effort in setting it up, compared to my previous all singing/dancing speed triple R its just as much fun on the roads around Dorset and no slower from A to B and if i'm honest its even more fun with its grunty engine that pulls strongly all the way from 2500 to the red line in any given gear.
fair enough. My concern is that so many discussions about this R version might motivate Triumph to propose it. Not only that I would like it, cause you are right the current Speed Twin rides perfect, looks perfect as it is... it’s more than the price of non R versions on the se one hand market would also drop cause a R would be available at a little premium ! When I buy a new expensive motorcycle, I just expect to get the best of it, not risk an upgraded version to appear every 6 months ! But agreed that for look, the non USD fork matches the bike spirit, and performance of current suspension if not the greatest, is certainly good enough for 99% of users !
I saw that and, based on the other big launches, I'm expecting tweaks to the exhaust and fuelling to make it Euro 5 compliant, and a couple of cosmetic changes so you can tell it's the Euro 5 model without having to look up the VIN on the computer
Actually, I tried the Speed Twin just last Saturday from a Triumph dealer. When I mentioned to him the fork bla-bla, he immediately stopped talking about it and just said: a new release will come in 2 weeks. I was surprised that a Triumph dealer could actually have information about Triumph, as usually they don't know more than the average guy, and less than people on this forum... for example, it took him more time than me on their own website to configure the motorcycle with some options... he did not know where to find the different options. Anyway... what I mean there is that he might have information about a front fork upgrade, explaining that he cut short my argument about it. At least... I hope. Fingers crossed.
