So I have been having problems with my 2014 Bonneville T100. I have just recently changed the fuel filter, fuel hoses, air filter and spark plugs trying to fix this issue. The problem is, is when I start the bike and ride it seems just fine. I park come back and on the second start, I get on the road I notice that anytime my rpms reach 3000 the bike starts to bog down and eventually die, so then I just ride home keeping the rpms under 3000. What could be causing this? And could it possibly be something wrong with my throttle cable, my check engine light is on, the shop read the code and said the light was something related to the throttle.
Vacuum in the tank is also possible. Try riding with the tank cap loose/off (appreciate its difficult etc) but that would cause the same issues too. TPS issue also?
Could be any of several things, fuel starvation, fuel pump...lack of fuel pressure, coil or HT breakdown, TPS as mentioned, even bad earths.
When did it start? Had you changed anything before hand, even just filled it up with petrol? Also, try emptying the tank and try fresh fuel.
Modern fuels go off very quickly if left for a few months remove float chamber on carbs blow through the jets and check float is not sticking once that’s done if not fixed get carbs set up and if a CV carb check diaphragm for perforations
so true sir we old folk forget this modern jiggery pokery stuff ruins all the fun of breaking down that and points out of adjustment it does have Injection. Multipoint sequential electronic fuel injection non the less, please ignore the ramblings of an old man
Kink in the fuel lines causing starvation, check the plugs for lean running, have you possibly dislodged a coil wire or blocked part of the air intake?..you've made a few changes and possibly during this you've accidentally created this issue..
Yes unless you carry a laptop and diagnostic software your pretty much buggered! I don't stop for any cars broken down any more because of this but still stop for bikes just in case but nothing much to fiddle with these days.
If it starts OK from cold and gives misfires when hot, could be worth checking crank position sensor.
Thanks for all the suggestions, I'm working on getting the diagnostic software and corresponding hook-up. I've checked the Haynes manual and it confirms I need the software. I'll follow up with what I find.
You could get some Red Line 60102 Complete Fuel System Cleaner 4oz put whole bottle in when you fill tank to full 10 or 20 miles later any crap in injectors sorted, I suppose any quality injection cleaner will do just check it’s suitable for motorcycles, I’ve sold my last bottle to a friend his bike is injected he was impressed
*UPDATE* so all the diagnostics equipment has come in, I hooked it up to my phone and the error code read P0122 (Throttle position sensor 1 -short circuit to negative) I inspected the cables for wear and they seem to be OK. the TPS reading was .20 when it should be .60 I believe. I saw where I could loosen the tps and adjust it i was able to get it to read .3 but I cannot go any higher is their any other steps I could take or do I need to replace the TPS? Thanks. *EDIT this link helped me understand what was going on: https://www.triumphrat.net/threads/tps-adjustment-efi-bonneville-and-dfco-mod.146984/post-1626164 also, I plugged it up again and opened the throttle to see that the numbers changed smoothly they did, but I noticed that my throttle percentage never changed it remained at zero when I was opening the throttle. idk if this is another concern?
