Hello all, It's been a very long time since I was last on here, I lost my dad last May and interest in my project speed triple went south. But to be honest it was waning before that and I came very close to taking a hammer to it. I guess patience is for the young! I've been plagued with problems and I've created a few in solving some of them. I've solved the starting problem but it meant buying two more pumps. I decided to replace the tatty steel tank and picked up a new plastic one in black for £52 delivered! It does have a tiny chip and some very light surface scratches but hardly notice. Eventually, I've gotten to my question, will an airbox from a Tiger 1050 fit with the plastic tank? It looks the right shape but the part number is different. I've found a good used one on evil-bay for a good price and have asked if I can return it if it doesn't fit. Awaiting their reply. Any comments most welcome. Cheers Nigel
I've no idea what "changeo" means or even why my fat fingers hit the letter o, I tried to edit it but can't do the thread title. Admin! Please change it otherwise I will look like an old feller trying to look cool and hip by using cooleo words.....or something like that.......changeo.....unbelievable!!
Sorry for your Loss Nigel, good luck with your project. Hope you sort out your Airbox changeo, It must be made in Italy
Yeah, I deserved all of that And, a Tiger airbox has a different base to the Speed Triple base although the top half is the same. There must be a dimension difference and one must sit higher when fitted on the bike.
Nope, even a Speed Triple airbox don't fit...........then it dawned on me........it's not a Speed Triple is it, it's a T595 modified to look like one. So my tank replacement fits on the frame and looks correct following the line of the frame tubes but the headstock area is clearly different. A 595 airbox is too big and fouls the underside of the tank. Modified bikes can be oh so bloody tiring. I solve one problem to create another. Do I buy a block of that oasis stuff from a florist and model an air box and have a custom one fabricated or use the inlet rubbers and fit a plastic pipe elbow into it and fit pod filters..........or break the damn thing and sell the parts? But it sounds so nice when it's running!!!
Fck the plastic tank! That's near on £200 wasted . I gave up and bought another steel tank from eBay and a t595 air filter. Valuable lesson learned here!
