Hi there all, I've recently had the dreaded puncture (luckily, spotted it before getting on the bike on sat) and I ordered this on amazon and an oxford 2 canister air kit. Bloody brilliant. Worked a treat and it's certified to be a permanent repair too. I would’ve changed the tyre BUT it's loads of life left and it was in the middle (ish). Well recommend chaps.
I've done thousands of miles on plugged tyres, and even a burnout towards the end of ones life to test the plug. No problems at all
I have been carrying one of those on longer journeys with air canisters for a few years now, good to know they work.
Interesting. I have a usual repair kit. I'll look at that one and try to balance how better it is. I may end buying one, and hope I'll never use it
In the past I had a puncture an a former bike. I could have done without this experience! Therefore I am now carrying a repair kit with 3 air cardridges and some other small tools on my daily rides with me. When riding long tours I add a tool set with common parts too.
Now that looks a VERY good idea. Pumps motorbike tyres 6 times on one charge apparently. 1031 reviews on amazon too so worth a go!? Thanks for posting!
very interesting. most of my stuff uses tubes, and so i have always carried short tire irons and an inner tube patch kit. the patches and cement degrade over time, so i buy new periodically. when i travel longer distances i've always carried a short bicycle pump to re-inflate a tire. standard equipment in the old days similar solutions are still available in smaller sizes and probably better quality https://www.amazon.com/Pro-Bike-Too...9Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=
It dosnt matter how many canisters you pump into the tyre, they will still only get you to around 20psi. Good enough to get you to a garage.
that's why the low-tech solutions continue to be viable. three minutes cursing a hand pump are better than an hour out and another back spent hitchhiking to a service station with a compressor, carrying your wheel
My battery operated compressor that is similar to @Hubaxe’s post #8 also comes with a 12v plug to power it from the bike/cars charge/lighter socket. Helpful should the internal battery ever be flat.
Have not seen anyone on here mention "Punture-Safe or Ultraseal permanent repair solution injected into the tyre (not tubed type) and permanently repairs a puncture, our local M/cycle club been using it for 20 years and in the UK every Royal Mail road vehicle is treated, does not affect balance and is injected via the valve, a chart gives details of the quantity to inject as it obviously varies by tyre size, is rated as safe after a repair up to 120mph BMW motorcycle owners club evaluated and recommended the product I think "Puncture-Safe" was an UK name and "Ultraseal the US brand no need to carry any puncture emergency kit of any description it is already inside the tyre and seals the puncture whist on the move
Hi Bikerman, Only disagreed with the need to carry a repair kit on any bike, due to our club's years of experience with pre treatment with ultraseal solution (available from Amazon) I was not criticizing your suggestion, only disagree with the need to carry any repair kit, no personal offence intended. Cheers Clive1
I can’t comment on the efficacy of motorcycle tyre puncture repair kits but I can on the use of CO2 as an inflation gas. It has the ability to make its way through butyl rubber. So if you have used one of these kits, get some air (or pure nitrogen) in your tyres by the next day. ps. And don’t use pure nitrogen to start up Ivchenko radial engines. They won’t start. Doh...
