Hi I'm Lee from Manchester, I'm just starting out as its something I have wanted to do for years just never got around to passing the tests. When lockdown started I thought I'm going to get it done asap. Passed the theory and the CBT and booked the DAS course which has now been delayed due to being locked down again. I like the Street Triple and have also been looking at the Trident. I'm here to get as much info as I can as I can't do much else at the minute. I have no experience with bikes apart from the CBT and can't wait to get on a big bike.
Welcome. Great you took the plunge and took to bikes. Personally your choice should be down to your view of your own character. A triple in the hands of a madman with recently acquired riding skills (and don’t think car experience instantly counts, and is in any way relevant) could end with you in a squishy mess. If you know the bike is capable of a lot more than the soft fleshy bit riding it, and ride ‘below’ your capabilities then you might last until Friday. I haven’t riden a Trident but think as a first bike I’d go with that. Looks good, modern tech, not over powered. Ride that for a year or two then go bonkers. But with the skills to tame the beast (machine and/or ego). Good luck with the choice. Keep letting us know what you choose - photos and posts of experiences are compulsory. Tip two - always ride to your skills and not those with whom you ride. Or the lesser of the two.
Hi Lee welcome to the forum! Those street triples can get you into a lot of trouble very quickly! Absolutely brilliant bike! If you were going to get one as a first bike you really need some manners which is not easy, they like to be ridden hard but at the same time it'll have enough power to keep you excited for many years. Whatever you go for, always assume that car driver waiting to pull out can't see you!
Lee Welcome to the family. Yes you have had all the warnings probably scared the bejesus out of you. But its true they can motor on a bit. But if you go down that route treat it softly till you iron out all the ripples and feel confident. But you will love it that triple can talk to you. And its sweet as. Joe.
Thanks for the welcome and the comments they’re appreciated. I lost my need for speed in my 20’s and the ego went in my 30’s. I have no plans to end up in a squishy mess (then again I don’t suppose anyone does). I know from the CBT I have a steep learning curve ahead but I’m looking forward to it.
Lee. Why not try the Bonneville's out. But no matter how you go get as much test time as you can and really feel the bike out. Joe.
Welcome to the wonderful world of bike! I’ve been riding since I was 17, which is...quite a while now. Getting my bike licence a few years later was one of my better decisions in life. I’m sure you’ll feel the same way. Unkess you were thinking of going for a Triple RS or something quite nippy I wouldn’t worry too much about the bike getting away from you. You sound like you have your head screwed on so you’ll be fine. My other half passed her test recently and her first big bike is my Street Triple. She absolutely loves it. Let us know how you get on and what you decide to buy. Just in time for the better weather, too!
Welcome, Bienvenue, It's a valiant choice as first bike. But it's the rider that turns the throttle . Enjoy
Greetings, Lee, and welcome to the forum! Good luck with passing your DAS course (though I'm not sure what that is since I'm in the U.S. and that's not an acronym I'm familiar with). Happy hunting when it comes to choosing your bike. I've been curious about the Trident so will be eager to hear what you think of it and to see some photos if that's the one you go with. Heck, I'll look forward to hearing what you think of whichever bike you choose and I love photos!
Test was eventually passed (2nd time on both parts) on the 9th July and I collected my bike on the 24th. I looked at the Trident but it was a bit smaller than I expected it to be and then I sat on the bike I ended up getting. I have done about 200 miles so far taking it easy.
