Bought a 1999 yellow 955I Tiger recently . I'm doing an oil change and the triumph service manual and the Hayes book both say it should take 4 liters, but when I put in 3 US Quarts, which is less than 3 liters, the oil level was above the sight glass. There appears to be only one drain plug and I replaced the filter so what could it be? I'm a very experienced mechanic but I'm stumped by this one. Any help would be appreciated. [IMG]

Bike needs to be dead vertical and level.
Run engine. Switch off. Wait ten minutes then check level.
I usually give it best of three checks.
For some reason both my bikes...955i Tiger and 1600 tbird are a pain to get an accurate oil level reading.

I have the same bike, it does take about 4 liters of oil, definetly more than 3l.
Maybe the sight glass is not positioned correctly? The original cover does not have a side glass... Id try with the stick-plug, if it has the right length and position you shoul be able to put in 4l (remember to prime the filter).

Bike IS 955i very early Tiger they didn't go single sided swing arm on the Tiger ! I've got a late 1998 Sprint Executive 885 and that Tiger certainly isn't 885 1610704999511-614321367.jpg

The second generation Hinckley Triumphs were 885 injected - based on the original T300 (like @capt 's Sprint) but fuel injected - so the subject of this thread could very well be an 885i not a 955i.

It is an 885. It's got the old sprag clutch arrangement motor with ' Triumph' script on the barrels.
