Hi i have a 2003 955i runs and rides great BUT!!

When you blip the throttle the RPM go's up then comes down and the bike immediately cuts out more often than not.

When it cuts out it smells of Raw fuel. SO i believe it over fuels and wets the plugs to much.

    No error codes,
    New Air filter
    New IAC and vac lines
    New Lambda
    New Plugs
    New Air temp sensor
    New Engine Water Temp sensor
    New Fuel Regulator
    New Fuel Pump
    New Fuel Filter
    New Generator
    New Rectifier
    Throttle bodies balanced
Map to suit exhaust std and Aftermarket still does it.

Bike doesn't smoke and runs and rides fine. Doesn't cut out at junctions but can tick over slow sometimes

    Confused......

You’ve not changed the tyre valve caps!
Seriously, you’ve done everything possible except the ecu itself.
That's the only logical thing left by the looks of it.
    Confused is entirely apt sir!

I bought a new ECU for my 5000k mile 955i about 3 years ago from Fowlers of Bristol. They come without a map, Clive Wood put a map on it for me but you can do it yourself with a laptop, OBD cable and TuneECU software which is free to download. Normally people have all sorts of negative comments about TuneECU, but as ever, normally from those who have never used it. I have, found it pretty good and didn't have any issues. The OBD cable can be found very cheaply on eBay, I think I paid about £10 for it.

I wish you good luck, I had a similar headache with mine and it gets really frustrating. Mine had a different problem but the ECU did fix the problem after Clive said it wouldn't. I'm not knocking him, he was as helpful as he could be but I was glad I stuck to my guns and replaced the ECU.

It could be worth just downloading a new map on to your existing ECU, for the cost of the cable its worth a try and quite fun to mess about with. It made me feel like Rossi's crew chief.

    Hi thanks for the reply,

I have TuneEcu and the cable along with the maps so that wouldnt be a problem.

Its just finding a Known good ecu.

I was tempted but then I thought that if it doesn't work I still don't know if its the ECU. I had been through a similar time to Merc85 and by that stage you'll do just about anything to get the Bast**d fixed!!

You’re pretty unlucky if it’d have the same error tbh!

Tps? Does it run on all three at idle check the temperature of the headers and maybe rebalance the throttle bodies

Have you checked the CO level? Done a TPS reset after balancing the TBs?
The 955s are normally set to run lean at idle but if you’ve changed the map it could now be over fuelling which is why it’s cutting out.
Other thing could be that No1 TB has been adjusted at some point (it should be the datum) and they’re all now out of tune.
Could be lots of reasons for the problem but it certainly sounds fuelling related rather than an ECU problem. That’d be the last component I’d look to change

    TPS has been reset,
    Throttle bodies Balanced

Tbh i've done so much to get this bike running smoothly i've forgot which order, The bike used to surge but since the above works now runs really well at part throttle 2k etc.

As for tick over on all 3,she feel lumpy tome but i've had twins before and 4s never 3s so unsure how a Triumph should run. On the run she runs smooth.

Tick over is alittle random Map says 1200, but most time when shes warm its at 950 ish its very up and down tbh, I've certainly got fed up with the dam thing.
No real love for it as its been a git since day one.

I've bit the bullet and bought a 2nd ecu from Colchester breakers, i'll map it to suit and see if its any different. Probably Px or break it if nothing changes shame as i've spent so much trying to get her right.

Thanks for the advice peeps :)

This probably sounds daft but my T509 had an erratic tickover which is now fine after I adjusted the slack in my throttle cable.
I had taken it all out coz thats how I like my bikes, with instant go, but had to leave a bit of slack.
I see you changed the 3 IACV hoses or I would have said there may be a leak.

Have you checked your on the right map? If p o took off an exhaust before he sold it then that could be it. You have all the tune ecu gear so Triumph Owners Club or tune web site should steer you towards which map is the right one for you.

Hi, Thanks again for the replies, Yes Brand new throttle cables and twist grip fitted with the correct free play.

I have tune ecu, and the Oe Exhaust, I've changed maps to suit either system and it makes no difference.

I've been all the way through the bikes its like new now lol.

    Hi Sprinter,

Well yes i keep thinking that, BUt i cannot understand why sometimes it ticks over fine at 1,200 then 5 mins down the road it will tick over at 900?

This issue seems to come and go if it was a air leak id thought id be there all the time.

I've tried to squirt carb cleaner etc up and around the intake area but it hasn't picked up at all, and all looks fine.

Heating the rubbers may cause them to slacken.
