I am considering a catalytic converter removal when I pick up my new T100. Does the ECU need to be remapped after this is done? I'm also wondering if it will affect warranty. Jim.
Hi Jim, The ECU needs no remapping due to its self learning. When vyou have installed your new x-pipe, Start the bike but do not rev it at all. Let it idle through one heating cycle till you hear the cooling fan come on, then turn the bike off. Restart the bike and take it for a ride. The ECU has been reset. A couple of years ago I had a T100 And remove the catalytic converter. The bike had a lovely extra rumble to it, not overly loud but I enjoyed the ride with a little extra smoothness and power. I then removed the standard pipes and installed British custom free flow pipes.I found my personal liking, it was much too loud. Apart from this what I really dislike was that the bike had lost practically all of its engine breaking. I have now bought a 2020 speed master and looking at moving the catalytic converter but based on past experience, personally would not consider then adding aftermarket pipes. Stick the cat back on if you ever need to make a serious warranty claim. Cant see it matter for the likes of a wobbly indicator. Could depend on the dealerships view too.
@Jadorff It's illegal to remove or modify - yes , but there is nothing in the law saying you must replace the catalyst converter with a new one if it no longer working. So just say it stopped working and you put a new exhaust on it to comply with noise regulations.
I’m riding a 2022 Speedmaster that’s still under warranty ( 4,000 k’s) and my dealer is installing the Motone X pipe. The warranty isn’t affected apparently in Quebec at least
It was the dealership that installed my decat, as far as they are concerned its not an issue warranty wise.
Here’s my impressions about having the cat delete My Speedmaster is a 2022 with 4k’s on the odometer and just installed ( at the dealer) a Free Spirits X-pipe. It was supposed to be a Motone but I’m not disappointed. Looking at the pipe, the welds are very well done and professional. Upon starting it, I was impressed on how the sound is a decibel or two higher but not aggressively noticeable unless parked beside an un modified 1200. The throttle response is DEFINITELY noticeable and much more crisp and at wide open throttle is where the difference in sound is apparent and it now has a snarl between gear changes. I don’t find any difference on the downshifts concerning using the engine compression but if the pop and burble you had before annoyed you, an X-pipe isn’t for you since it has become more noticeable… but I love it! Unfortunately, it’s been unseasonably cold and stupidly windy here so I’m not able to honestly comment if the heat from the engine has diminished or not and most of the miles I’ve put on it has been on the highway but I’ll let you all know as soon as I do some city miles. All in all, with the few miles I’ve ridden so far, I’m very satisfied with the investment.,
