Great photo and great Norton lineup, @rogerp! I've never owned a Norton but have always been drawn to them and loved them. Looks like a beautiful day for Norton ride!
this was about 4 weeks ago 3 of the nortons are electric start , i don't own one the guys i do breakfast with all decided to come on nortons , i was on a triumph so i was taking pictures
Please don‘t laugh, but this was my first motorcycle (it was Honda‘s take on the Commando and it was what I could afford at the time). I loved it dearly! That was long before ‚retro‘ was hip!
That looks a nice bike, and lets be honest it may have not been a Norton but I bet it was more reliable
Dave, it was the 500 Clubman. I think there was no official German version sold, since it had mph on the outer scale of the speedometer and a secondary inner ring depicting kph. I just checked: most of the German Clubmans where grey-imports from the U.S. Later, 1000 U.S. units where officially sold by Honda on the German market as they had problems selling them in America... Wikipedia says the 500 TT was painted in red and had a slightly different fuel tank. It was supposedly the initial series. Mine was dark-green-metallic. The green was only visible in sunlight; otherwise the bike appeared to be black. The TT:
Don’t want to disagree with Mr Wilkiedia but the GB500TT was also made in black with gold pin striping which looked like the colour of your bike. They were grey imports in the UK iirc. I know someone who has a GB400TT in black(original colour)it’s a nice little bike
I'm fairly sure the GB500TT WAS a factory standard range model in the UK - hence the GB play on the normal CB nomenclature? I'd also agree that it was finished in black and gold - an almost direct copy of a Velo. Venom colour scheme. The grey imports were most likely the 400 version.
