Could be because (I seem to remember) Euro car parts getting mentioned on here a few times a while back and the ad bots have picked it up.
Just guessing as I don't get the ads....

I think that DD acted as a mediator when others had their handbags out on more than one occasion.
    I will miss his contributions.

I have a technical question related to removing posts. Does--or how does--removing posts affect threads that are still on the forum?

    Havit,
You say members can come and go as they please, but they can’t really.
I don’t know any forum where they will remove you from the members list at request.
I suppose it looks good to have many members, even if half of them are no longer active.
    Ken.

When I was a theatre manager in the NHS, I removed myself from social media and for the few tendrils of interaction on the internet I did have, I used a persona. Despite being friendly with my workmates, I had to set out boundaries and distanced myself from personal relationships I had developed in the previous years of working there. I did this so that there could be no cries of unfairness or preferential treatment when I had to sort out the inevitable squabbles or poor performance issues. I suspect it’s a similar thing for Rob... the book stops with him, it’s his name on the pink slip... He can’t be one of the lads.

I appreciate the glimpse into his personal life, some nice bikes there dude! But the more of himself he puts into this, the less able he is to take the actions he feels necessary as an authority figure for the forum.

And we know he’s human not a bot!

Rob, the occasional visit is no bad thing. I am sure you think we are not really chickens so much as pigs because, as George Bernard Shaw once said, ‘Never wrestle with a pig. You just get dirty and the pig enjoys it,'

Wise advice with us lot! What are you riding now or is the Street it?

My view is I'm not going to be 'glad' that the forum originator has placed a resource. It's more that they should be glad that I participate.

My view is that it’s not an “either / or” but an AND.

I’m glad that Rob originated and offers the forum as a resource. And I suspect Rob is glad to have us as members since without members there would be no forum. Seems like a win – win to me.

IMO, the number one reason people join product specific forums is for the knowledge bank and expertise they offer, particularly relevant in my case being a complete newby to Triumph ownership. A chance to share the good and the bad and benefit from each other's knowledge. The afore mentioned, light hearted banter and piss taking is much the same as on other forums, and an enjoyable bonus I think, not forgetting of course the great biking trip and rideout stories posted up by forum members which make the whole forum experience one you want to keep coming back to.

Yes, it's a completely symbiotic relationship. I've generally shied from 'forum politics' as I'm a newcomer. I know relationships have been established, and it seems broken, way before I created an account.
But I think that in itself makes my small input valid.

I'll say outright that I joined here to fix a problem on my bike. I've also said on here that the forum were roundly useless on solving it ;) But it's a lively forum and I've continued to look in and post. I like to think that I contribute in the broader sense.

I'm quite uncomfortable about Dozers Dads dismissal. He was on here, (and I'm sure continues to be elsewhere) an entertaining but simultaneously irritating asshole (spelling corrected for your benefit ;) )

There is evidently a huge personality clash between 'the site' and 'some members' . It upsets me that in truth nobody is far apart and entrenchment was chosen over resolution. Both parties dug heels in.

But the comment you quoted was an irritation on people being so grateful that Rob reopened a site that he should not have shut down in a (as I see it) petulant reaction.

I like it here. It's fun. And that's why I look in. Rob does not make it fun. You, Dozers Dad, (I'm not namechecking anyone else as I fell foul in another thread :D ) make up the warm broad church.

    We are the people.

Symbiosis implies a biological connection which I will resolutely deny in court! Mutual benefit I can run with.

Pretty much agree with the the rest. In appreciating the service you don’t have to be servile. Besides, I barely have a forelock to tug...... and you can’t really doff a helmet.
