I approve 95% of the sentiment but don’t see Rob as my leader in any way, shape or form. He is more farmer to my battery chicken.

“It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own self-interest. We address ourselves not to their humanity but to their self-love, and never talk to them of our own necessities, but of their advantages”

― Adam Smith, An Inquiry into the Nature & Causes of the Wealth of Nations, Vol 1

    It’s just a little earner.

Perhaps it's just because I'm naive on such subjects but I found that statement fascinating and deep. Cheers for posting it Callumity :)

Rob may well be the 'farmer' to your 'battery chicken' and this may be "just a little earner" to him - but you don't actually KNOW that. And, unless you know the man, then you can't really know his motives behind the provision of the forum.

I'd, personally, think a more apt analogy would be that Rob (probably/presumably) owns or rents the 'playground' on which we all enjoy our social interaction. He pays the rates, rent and maintenance; keeps it tidy, secure and safe and, perhaps, gets some subsidy of his outright costs from paid adverts and subscription members.

Of course, THAT is only my speculative view and it's no more factual, valid or accurate than yours. It would appear that none of us actually knows and, unless Rob decides to come on here and tell us, then perhaps none of us ever will.

In the meantime, I personally think that a much more important point is that it behoves us all to behave in the playground with respect for each other AND the owner.

Well said ,There's a lot more to running a forum than maybe some realise. I for one will enjoy it for what it is and as you rightly said respect everyone on it, including the owner .

Oh I don’t underestimate Wayne’s legwork shepherding us lot but if you seriously think Rob runs the site out of the goodness of his heart you don’t begin to understand commerce. I doubt it’s any great money spinner but you can overdo his altruism. He has every opportunity to explain it.

Respect, good manners and appreciation are entirely different but it’s a two way street. You can’t complain of threats with zero explanation then take down the site with an implied threat of your own. I mean, how dare we?

Meanwhile far more sinister things are happening on our streets.

I try not to be so cyncal these days but I can't entirely disagree with that. I'd just say that it doesn't have to be completely true in every case. What really gets me is when the crocodile smile of marketing feigns the benevolence! Ooh, now you've got me started

Would the forum be a better place is Rob was 'one of us'?

Several years ago I was at an offsite department meeting. We were split into groups for the usual team building and debate malarkey. As part of that round-table discussion I made a point that the constant validation of employees as being part of some big family was mostly flimflam, because as soon as someone decided to reorganise things, you'd be out. I suggested we all accept that it's actually just a business relationship and start being honest about it, which didn't mean we couldn't be respectful and supportive of each other, or endeavour to do a good job.
My small speech was met with awkward silence and fiddling with pens, which I still find rather amusing.

All conjecture ...unless anyone knows Rob personally to actually confirm or deny weather he is here for the love of it or the money?

Mind you I am starting to think that this persistent dissection of the whys and wherefores is not doing the overall perception of the forum any good.

Doesn’t make a blind bit of difference in my view. I just ask people to be mildly cynical of motives. I imagine Rob stables a few forums or similar and there’s nowt special about us whatever ‘we’ may think of our micro bubble. Good luck to him. I merely recognise the true nature of the relationship.

To be honest I don't even think about Rob or whether I have a relationship with him. He runs the forum, I just come on the forum for information and a laugh, nothing any deeper than that :):)

Edit: I forgot about the babes and bikes :cool:

I think you've hit the nail on the head there Wessa. Some people get a bit obsessive about forums. If the first thing you do on a morning is switch on your computer/phone/tablet and check what happening on a particular forum before you have breakfast for example, you need to sit down and think about what you are doing. Its just a motorbike forum, enjoy for what it is, if you don't like how certain things are done live with it or go elsewhere for your fun.

Some of my previous bikes below. Started this forum as A Triumph fan I couldn’t find any Triumph based sites that existed at the time.

This site does make money. Not a lot. But for many many years it didn’t!

Also, never had any kind of deal with Euro Car Parts!

    Have a great weekend,
    Rob

Adverts come direct via Google Ads. So whatever is relevant at the time is displayed. It’s totally automated. Euro Car Parts may have stopped advertising at the moment but they could come back any time.

    cheers
