Just bought my first Triumph a week ago, 2006 T100. Installed a pair of used Hyde Togas last evening. Tried to start the bike but all electric shut off when I hit the starter button. All the fuses looked good. Tried to start the bike again this morning. All the lights turned on when I turned on the ignition but all the electric again shut off when I hit the starter button. Since the electric returned over night, I've concluded that there must be a circuit breaker involved. I also noticed when replacing the stock silencers that the rubber cushioned kickstand stop is replaced by a metal bracket. There looks to be a switch on the kickstand. Sure hope one of you can help with a solution. I will appreciate all opinions on the problem. Thanks,
Sounds like a flat or knackered battery to me. I can't be sure about the Norman Hyde Togas, but most aftermarket silencers either supply a new rubber stop for the side stand, or you simply transfer the existing one from the original silencer. If you do transfer the original, I would suggest using a lubricant (liquid soap works) and be careful not to damage the rubber as they can be difficult to get off.
If you hit the starter button it is normal that everything shut off, The solenoid relay send all the available power to the starter motor. This relay usually has it's own fuse. Check your battery voltage and as suggested by MadMrB all security switches (stand, clutch, etc)
MadMrB led me right to the problem. Not really a "knackered battery" but knackered battery terminal connections. Battery had a full charge so I cleaned what looked to be clean terminals. That's all it took. I live in Ohio where the temps are above average this week and I can finally get a good ride on my new Bonnie. Never heard the word "knackered" . Sounds like it covers a lot of ground. Thanks for the help fellows.
Glad we could help with the bike problem and expand your knowledge of English slang! Knackers - what you would call your nuts! Knackered - buggered, f*cked etc Knackered - tired as in "I'm absolutely knackered" (Cockney rhyming slang "cream crackered")
And to think I didn't have this very useful word in my vocabulary for 70 years. Thanks again fellows.
When you graduate to next weeks class we'll introduce you to 'Wanker'. Meaning, and *most* importantly, correct usage.
